Will and "Hinoy" Landgraf and Theo
dore Lowo skated down the river to
Brady Sunday. Tho distance by river
is thirty-five miles and tho trip was
made In four hours, tho rough Ice and
open channels making progress at
times rather slow.
Dr, Luther Ludden, of Lincoln, sec
retary of tho general board of educa
tion of tho Lutheran church, dropped
dead in Willlston, N. D., last week.
Dr. Ludden was well known in North
Platte having visited hero a num
ber ofumes, and his passing away at
tho ago of sixty, is deeply regretted
by friends in this city.

pants. The tournament will closo Jan
uary 25th and tho losing team will pay
for the oyster supper which Steward
Smith will furnish. Tho two teams aro
captained by Corbln Jones and Ernest

A contest was heard at the U. S.
land office Thursday and Friday which
involves tho homestead of Miss Jessa
mine Flynn of this city, a section of
land which lies in tho former forest
reserve In Arthur county. Charles
Flynn appeared as contestant and al
leged that tho entry was not made in
good faith by Miss Flynn but was en
tered for tho benefit of her uncle Gee.

Letts in Omaha announced that Mr.
Letts was operated upon by Dr. Jonas
Sunday morning at 10:30 and that he
was getting along nicely. IIo hadro

was taken violently ill and at Grand
Island they wero compellel to wait
for several hours while ho wu3 at

A. F. Wllklns, known to the older
railroad men in North Platte, died
in Coldwater, Mich., Tuesday and was
buried in Omaha Friday. Mr. Wllklns
was employed as engineeer on tho
Union Pacific for forty-seven years,
beginning service in 18G7 and retiring
in 1906.
Among the passenger on train No. 6
Friday wero seventeen Japaneso nur

wore navy blue uniforms with a Red
Cross on a white ground on the loft
arm whilo tho surgeons wero attired
in tho regulation khaki. They wore
enroute to the battlefields of Europe.
W. C. Blackburn, a porter on train
No. 2, miscalculated tho length of
tho Atop of tho train at Columbus Fri
day and was baroly able to swing on
to the closeld vestibule. He hung In
this position for six miles without at
tracting attention, when ho becamo
bo numbed with cold that ho dropped
from tho step and waB killed.
