In Russian Poland.
Julius Pizer received n letter from
his sister In Russian Poland In which
sho tells of the awful conditions ex
isting there on account of tho war.
The soldiers loot all the stores where
foodstuffs are kept, and it is impos
sible for oven those who have plenty
of money to buy even bread, nnd as
a result people are starving to death,
the weather is the coldest known in
many years, and it is impossible to
buy fuel, hence tho suffering Is in
tense. The roar of cannons is con
stant, and tho people live in fenr all
the time.
Mr. Plzer's father who la, the
wealthiest man in the town In which
he lives, has ben notified that if ho
does not furnish a stated sum of
money to the soldiers, he will be
taken prisoner nnd held for ransom.
A brother of Mr. Pizer who went Into
the army two months ago. has not
been since heard from, and it is not
known whether lie Is dead or alive.
The letter received by Mr. Pizer is a
pitiful tale of the horrors of war.
