Local poultry misers tiro very en
thusiastic over tho Interest taken In
the newly organized Lincoln County
Poultry Association and the poultry
show which will bo held In the room
next to Mock's store on January 7th,
Sth and Oth. Over ono hundred grow
ers hnve become members of the as
sociation, and each ono is boosting
for tho show. It Is confidently ex
pected that several hundred pens will
be exhibited, a number of which will
conio from Dawson county. A grower
of natlonnl reputation has been se
sured as Judge.
Successful 31vctlii7 for Charities.
Tho meeting which was held Tues
day evening by the Twentieth Cen
tury Club for tho benefit of the As
sociated Charities proved a great suc
cess and netted a nice sum to bo do
nated to tha,t society. A total of
$19.75 was taken In for tho benefit of
tho charities.
A good program was given at tho
meeting. Tho subject was "Cotton"
and papers wero read by Mesdames
Duke, Garlichs and Dirge. Mrs. Bu
chanan read an original poem en
titled "Buy aBalo of Cotton." Tho pro
gram wns in chnrgo of tho domestic
science department of tho club.

Mrs. Schnrniunn Given Farewell Party
Mrs. A. M. Scharmann, prior to her
departuro for her new home In Kear
ney, was given a fnrcwell surprise
party Saturday evening. Sixty-five
friends and relatives were present,
and the evening was pleasantly
passed with games and music. As
mementoes of tho occasion and as
evidence of tho esteecm in which she
is held by her friends Mrs. Scharmann
was presented with a nice pedestal
and candle sticks.

At the meeting of the board of edu
cation Monday evening, Miss Aileen
Gantt presented her resignation as
teacher of mathematics to take effect
January 1st, at which timo sho will
assume the duties of county superin
tendent. Several applications for tho
position are on file but no successor
was named at. tho Monday evening
meeting of the board.

An overhead radiator in the pri
mary room at tho Washington school
fell from its fastenings Tuesday
morning prior to tho opening of
school, and reduced to kindling sev
eral chairs. Had the accident oc
cured an hour later it is probnblo that
deaths would ensued as tho radiator
weighs several hundred pounds.
Episcopal Hrothcrhood Meets.
The men's brotherhood of the Epis
copal church was pleasantly enter
tained Wednesdny evening at the T.
C. Patterson home on west Fourth
street. About thirty men were pres
ent and tho winter's work of that or
ganization wns taken up and dis
cussed fully after which a Jolly social
timo was enjoyed
Some elnbornte plans for the winter
wero begun and It is the intention of
the men to have a live organization.
They expect to meet often this winter
for aocial times and aro planning such
diversions as debating and other gath
erings of that nature and also ath
letics. The athletic committee was instruc
ted Wednesdny to evening to report
on the possibility of an Indoor base
balll league among the different bro
therhoods and that will probably be
ono of the chief diversions this winter.
The men aro now planning a large
aannuet tor all tho men connected
with the church to bo held in celebra
tion of the opening of the chun ii
basement. They can probably have
over u huiidred men nt t'i's banquet
and they plan starting out the win
ter's soc nl work with this. Matters
of civic interest will be dbcussed nt
tills meeiing

Literary Society Started
A meeting of the night school stu
dents was held after school hours
Wednesday for tho purpose of organiz
ing a literary society among tho high
school body. This society will be
under the supervision of Mr. Mnrklcy,
tho English teacher, and will consti
tute nil tho former debating, oratori
cal and elocution organizations and
tho like that have heretofore been sep
arate. At tho meeting Wednesday nothing
definite was done except to call for an
organization nnd n meeting was called
for tomorrow to consumate tho organ
ization and elect officers and get the
work stnrted. There Is considerable
talent along this line In the bigh school
and the organization will probably bo
ono of the largest as well as one of the
most Interesting In the high school.
Tho work of tho boys' and girls'
glee clubs is progressing nicely and
tho instructors report some good work
being done. Principal Uedenbaugh
hns charge of the girls' club and re
ports that they arc showing exception
al talent and arc doing some good
work. The boys' gleo club, under the
instruction of E. II. Flowers, has a
good start from last year and is show
ing up even better than last year's or
ganization did.

A number of tho trains were from
twenty minutes to an hour Into yes
terday on account of the snow and
storm. Quite a little troublo was ex
perienced on account of tho storm
and the west bound trains were held
back considerably on account of the
drifts between here and Omaha.

Annual Football Banquet
Will Be Friday Krcnlntr.
The second annual footbnll banquet
given by the high school will bo hold
Friday evening at the Christian
church and the banquet will bo ser
ved by the ladies of that church. An
elaborate program has been prepared
for tho occcaslon. A large ntlendnnco
is desired.
The sale of tickets for the banquet
was opened yesterday and quite a
number wero sold. The number Is
limited to one hundred forty and only
students, faculty, and alumni will be
permitted to attend. A number of tho
alumni aro planning to attend and tho
limited number of tickets will un
doubtedly bo sold.
The football boys have purchased
gifts which will bo presented to the
coaches In appreciation of their work
this year. Coach Neville will be pre
sented with a nlco traveling set nnd
Coaches Koefe Uaskins and Halligan
with scarf pins. The girls' glee club
will furnish two selections for the oc
casion in addition to tho toasts.
