STIIICKLEK EXPLAINS CHMSTIAN SCIENCE JjAIIGK AUDIENCE GREETS THE LECTURER AT THE KEITH TUESDAY EVENING .Sickness and Disease Result of Error and When Error of Relief Is Re trojed, the Disease Disappears. Virgil O. Strlcklcr, of Now York, mombor of tho Board of Lectureship of tho Mother Church, tho First Church of Christ Scientist, of Roston, delivered a free lecturo on Christian Sclenco Tuesday ovenlng to an audl onco that practically filled tho lower floor of the Keith theatre. By request, Mayor Evans Introduced the speaker In a neat mnnner, nnd for about an hour Mr. Strlcklor hold tho close at tention o) his audience. In part lie said: It Is undeniable that Christian Sci ence has healed ninny sick people nnd has brought about the regeneration of mnny who wero the vlctums of sin. Among Its membership nro thoso who have been healed of Intemperance, of so-called chronic and organic diseases as well as tho maladies that were acute or functional., It has healed others of sorrow, fear, unhnpplness and similar diseased mental condi tions that oltcn cnuso moro suffering and distress than physical disorders,. In every case of Christian Science healing, whether tho disease wns chronic or acute, physical or mental, tho euro was brought about without tho use of hypnotism, mental sugges tion, drugs or any material means and entirely through tho application of the spiritual and motn-physlcal teachings of Christian Sclenco, The healing of tho sick, howovor, Is not tho primary purpose of Christian Sclonce. According to the teachings of this Science all sickness and dls- enso result rrom error and false belief, which aro summarised as sin, nnd when the error of belief Is destroyed i ly llio truth which Christian Science Imparts, tho disease disappears. Chris tian Science, therefore, teaches that tho cause of all disease and sin Is mental,, and not phyfeical, nnd thnt both sin and disease may be cured by one and the same process, namoly, by tho substitution of spiritual truth In tho place of error and inlso belief In the human consciousness It is recorded hit he eighth Chapter of tho Gospel of John that upon one occasion Jesus turned to a group of his followers who were standing near to Hjem and said to them, "Ye shall know all tho truth and the truth shall mako you free." In all tho Rlblo there Is no statement of greater Importance to mankind than this utterance of the Master. It prescribes the remedy for every human ill. Knowledge of a thing must come through the mental and not through the physical, hence, according to tho word of Jesus, man kind will bo delivered from sin, dis- caso and death not by doctoring the physical, but by filling the mental with truth. Christian Sclenco shows that It Is tho effect produced by truth opera ting Int ho humnn mentality, destroy ing superstition, false and vlcous be liefs that muBt and will some day emanclpnto mankind from bondago to sin, disease and dentil. There must be ultimate truth some where, nnd when It Is apprehended by the human mind It will cmaticlpato those who apprehend It from bondage to evil. Christian Sclenco nsscrts that ultlmato truth conpernlng God and Man and their relationship Is rovenled byt ho Scriptures, and may bo gained by every person when tho Scriptures are rightly Interpreted, Some day all mankind will recog nize the Immeasurable servlco that Mrs. Eddy has rendered to humanity by her discovery of Christian Sclenco and the establishment ol the Christian Sclenco movement. Through her teaching sho has elevated rollglous understanding from a theoretical to a practical basis. Sho has taught tho world that it is tho mission of relig ion to heal pcoplo of sickness, sor row, unhapplnosB nnd fenr, as well as to destroy sin, and has so clearly de fined tho process by means of which those results may be accomplished as to make It posslblo for every one to prove It for himself nnd thereby to heal himself and others. Christian Sclenco Is applied Christianity Just as truly as engineering 13 applied mathe matics,. There is no mystery about It, and when ono does his work correctly, according to Its rule, healing and re generation must folllow. In tho Bible (John xx:17) wo read that Jesus said to Mary, "Go to my brethren, nnd sny unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Fathor; and to my God nnd your God,." Also In 1 John 111:2, "Beloved, now arc we tho sons of God, and It docs not yet ap pear what wo shall be: but we know that, when hc shall appear, wo shall U like hlmo for wo shall see him as he is." St. Paul also wrote (Romans 8:1G, 17,) "Tho Spirit "itsolt' beareth witness with our spirit, that we aro ..lie children of God: nnd If children limn heirs; ho's of God, and Joint h'lrs with Chrhr Christian Sclunca uomonstrates the truth of these inspired statements. It makes avallablo as a present right nnd possibility man's Inheritance ns the son and heir of God by showing that tho real man created by God is spiritual and not material; that his life, continuity, Intelligence and harmony are in spirit and not In mnt ter; that all of his qualities and at tributes aro derived from Spirit, and t-very function ot tho real maa Is gov erned 'by the divine Mind. Man, therccrc expA.st.ses the dlvino na ture, and lienco ho is the imago of God, and such Is perfect and Immortal, 'ilie material man is not the likeness o? God, for matter can not bo the imago of Spirit. Ho 1b tho false concept of man, and the sin, disease and deat.i involved in this false concept will disappear as false mortal beliefs arc dissolved by truth. The material be lief must glvo place to tho spiritual fact In every case. Out of tho amplitude oi! her own spiritual understanding Mrs. Eddy has translated into human language the truth about God and man, and their relationship; has revealed a perfect ulvlno principal that governs mankind, nnd has proven that the truth taught by Jesus is scientific, und may bo deni moiiBtrnted today as of old to deliver tho sinning, sorrowing and suffering from their oppressors, to set all man kind free from bondage to evil, and to establish tho kingdom of God on earth.
