had lots of fun chasing coyotes, had a
touch of the sport Thursday when ho
took a couple of grcyhouds out to tho

ing up a coyote which the dog, after
an exciting chase, succeeded In run
ning down and killing.

The golf record was lowered Sunday
by Clyde Frlsto, who mado a score of

by Dick Dnkor, was lowered to sixty
Thursday by C. T. Whelnn and was

function of last week at the Goodman
home Saturday afternoon. The rooms
were decorated profusely with potted
plants and chrysanthemums,. Thir
teen tables were placed for 500, and
at the close of the games an elaborate
lunch was served.

Jaw Broken by n Horse's Kick.
Andrew Beck, a nephew of John
Koons, of this city, who lives on a
farm In Hayes county a short distance
south of Wallace,, was brought io
town Sunday suffering from a frac
ture oft ho left Jaw, the result of a
kick of a horse,. Mr. Beck drove to
Wallace with a load of hogs, and while
unhitching the team both horses kick
ed him, one breaking the jaw, the
other planting Its hoofs in his- side.
Upon his arrival hero he was turcred
over to Dr. Simms who with the as
sltance of Dentists Mitchell and Mor
rill reduced tho fracture and securely
bandaged tho jaw and sent Beck on
his way home, feeling thankful to
the doctor and dentists but rather
"sore" on the horses.
Shoots Hear, Sines Life.
George H. Hirst, at one timo a ma
chinist in tho local shops, but of late
years living at Douglas, Ariz., killed
a seven hundred pound bear October
31st In the Chlrlcahau mountains near
Douglas. Mr. Hirst was hunting deer
and while walking up a narrow can
yon saw the bear stretched out on a
pile of sand apparently deal. He
picked up a stono to throw at tho an
imal to ascertain whether it was alive
and at tho same time It jumped up on
its hind legs and started for Hirst. He
tried to mako the distance between
him and tho bear greater by clamber
ing up tho side of tho canyon but his
pursuer gained on him. Turning
around ho took careful aim, fired and
tho animal dropped, tho ball from a
25-35 saddle gun having entered his
left eye, and a subsequent shot made
tho death dealing work sure. The
dlstanco between where Mr,. Hirst
stood and where tho bear dropped
was but twenty-five feet.
Minor Injur l'nnes Serious
Walter Wilson, residing on a farm
six miles west of this city, was taken'
to Omaha Saturday evening to Dr. Glf
ford to have one of his eyes taken out
About a week ago Mr. Wllbon had the
eye hurt with a piece of wire. Ho
camo to this city to a local physician
for treatment nnd the eye was getting
along very well. Sympathetic Irrita
tion started and both eyes got bad
and it was feared that ho would loso
them. The operation will savo one eye.
Mr. Wilson Is tho son of J. C,. Wil
son, one of tho most prominent and
successful farmers of the county.
Petition for u Xew Bridge.
Residents of tho Sutherland section
were in town Saturday and filed with
the county commissioners a petition
for a new bridge across the South
Platte river dlrectlly south of Suther
land. Tho present bridge, which Is
located a half mile west of Sutherland,
was built In 1S89, before the town site
was platted, and Is practically worn
out. The position of the new brldgo
will make the distance to Sutherland
one mllo less to those who live east,
while the dlstanco will be the same as
nt present to those who live west. Tho
petition filed is signed by 120 free
holders living north and south of the
river.

Editor Tribune: Five years ago I
moved with my family from North
Platte to California, but I still feel as
If North Platte was my homo and my
family is always eager to get tho news
in Tho Tribune. That this feeling is
shared by most North Platte people
now in Los Angeles was demonstrated
Sunday, November 1st, at a picnic held
at Grimtli Park, called by J. W,. Cun
ningham,. All of the fifty or sixty
nre3ent were from North Platte, men,
women and children. It was a day of
pleasure, for us all, meelng old friends
wo had not seen for years.

Mary, Elizabeth, Alice and Mazy (Mrs.

The Omaha team camo through their
gamo with Des Moines without serious
injuries to tho players, and will have
their strongest llnc-up against North
Platte,. The local team Is recovering
In good shape fromt he effects of tho
Kearney game and barring injuries
this week, will present, their strongest
team.
Much enthusiasm Is being shown
among tho local followers of the sport
Tho stores will nearly all bo closed
Friday .afternoon for a few hours so
thnt all can bo tree to attend the game.
This game will put North Platto on
the map and a good nttendnnco Is ex
pected. Omaha will play tho Chicago
high school team next week nnd North
Platte can be compared with Chicago

Eighteen members of tho Woodmen
lodge at Maxwell took part in a side
hunt one day last week and succeeded
in killing 103 quail, twenty chickens,
threo Jack snipe, eight ducks nnd fif
teen rabbits. The teams wore cap
tained by J. M,. Schopp and C. H.
Kuhns nnd as to points the contest
was declared n draw,. Tho hunt was
followed by a game supper In which
150 men, women nnd children participated.
