(Ynlurlnt; Ilfforls Against 3IIss Onntt Satisfied that there Is utterly no hope for the election of their candi dates for county clerk, treasurer, sheriff and county commissioner, tho democrats aro centering their fight against Miss Hnntt. That this Is true, i.j evidenced by the fact that the Max well Telopost, supposed to be the democratic organ of tho county, is boosting Mls Cox in each issue to the exclusion of boosts for tho othor democratic candidates. Evldontly tho democrats figure that one slice of bread from tho loaf Is better than none.but If surface Indications can be accepted ns worthy of consideration, tho untcrrlflcd will not oven get tho coveted slice. Miss Gantt is a Lincoln county young woman, tho daughter of T. Fulton Gantt, one of tho bralnest men that cvor resided In the county, and with the exception of a few years rcsldonco In Lincoln while a student at tho stato university, has spont her life In North Platte. Her opponont is a comparative newcomer in tho county; and when qualifications aro equal If not superior, why not be loyal to Lincoln county and support with your vote a county-bom young woman. Miss Qnntt's qualifications for tho oiilco cannot honestly bo questioned; there Is no requirements doniandcd of the county superintendent she ennnot accoptablo meet; her education, her experience, her cxecutivo nblllty and her lndustrlousuess are all that tho most exacting school patron could de mand, Ilnliignn for County Attorney. One of the important ofllces to bo filled at this tlmo is tho odlco of coun ty attornoy. This olllcc la particularly important at this time for tho reason lhat a suit Is now pending in tho district court of Lincoln county, brought by tho Union Pacific railroad company to compel the board of equalization of Lincoln county (o raise the assesed value of all of tho real estate In tho county. Tho candldato of tho republican par ty for tho ofllco of county attorney is P. R. Ilalligan, who was born In Ognlalla in 1887. He lias resided in North Plntto since 1890, and gradun graduatcd from tho acedenllc depart ment of tho state university in 1910, and from tho law department of tho stato university In 1012. Slnco his graduation ho has boon employed In tho ofllco of Wilcox & Hnlligan in this city whero ho lias a varied experience in all tho various branches of tho law. If Mr. Haligan Is' elected to this ofilce, tho people will feel tho important legal business of tio county will have tho best of attention, To tho Yolers of Lincoln County. I am on tho republican ticket as a candldato for Lieutenant Governor. This Is tho first tlmo western Nebras ka has been recognized for a position In Nebraska. Ae a Lincoln county citizen and n member of the last two sessions of tho slnto legislature, I bollove 1 havo ac complished something for western Ne braBka, in tho protection of its school, stock, nnd agricultural and Ir rigation interests. Wo aro now trying to solvo tho problems, with tho gov ernment, as to the wator In the North Platte river. This means much for wentorn Nebraska. As lieutenant govomor of this stato I bellovo I will bo In a position to be of sorvico to tho people of Lincoln county and woatom Nebraska. There ought to bo no question of partlzan polities in voting for western Ne biaska intoroata. I would appreciate tin support of all tho Lincoln county otors, regardless of their party allll iotloiiH, for tho oiilco of lieutenant governor. Yours truly, WALTER V. 1IOAOLAND. Reported "Tie-Up. .Lincoln, Nob., Oct. 17. "Looks llko it was really a fact," said Chairman Walter A. Ueorgo of tho republican state committee last ovonlng, when an other report of the allogod demooratlc progresBlvo tie-up reached ropubllcnn hendquurlom "These leports have boon coming to m from all parts of tho state even some prominent dem ocrats assort that they know It to bo a fact thut tho progressive campaign, in which Mr. Snckott Is taking such a lending part Is bolng partly flnnucod by domocratlo candidates." continued Mr. Goorgo. IIo added: "If thoro Is no truth in those roporta I would think that it's up to tho democratic stato comtnlttco to dony it or else Mr. Snck ett should have boniothtng to say on tho mattor. If this roport Is truo then tho ofTort to throw tho progressive vote to Morohoad should bo bended off and you can depend on it that tho repub lican ntnto committee will do every thing in its power to enlighten tho voters and savo tho hono3t progross- ivo voter from wasting his ballot. Pat Ilaggorty apont Sunday visiting friends In Hastings. Thirty-ouo votornns of tho Spnnlsh Amorlcan war nnd twolvo membors of tho G. A. R. wore out last ovonlng to nttond tho bean ouppor at tho I. About nine o'clock a squad of tho veterans marched to tho court houso ynrd and thoro thoy took Ex-Govornor Aldrich, W. H. C. Woodhurst and P. R. H. Wnrnor, of Gonova, extending tho best wishes of tho department for a suc cessful and enjoyable time. Poormnstor Mnurlco Fowler loft this morning for Keystone to spend tho day on business. ton.,.,, To the Volcrs and Tnv F'aiers of Llncol I am a cnndldnte for county nttor ney of Lincoln county. In aspiring to that office, I bollove I havo tho requlslto ability to perform Its duties, not only to prosecute tho persons charged with crime within tho county, but itUo to conduct any civil litigation in which the county may be Involved. In this point it is instructive to review a portion of the history of tho county regnrdlng civil actions In which tho county has been lnvolvod. Somo years ago, the exact date I am unablo to give, the Union Pacific Railway compnny brought an action in the fed eral court to restrain the treasurer of Lincoln county, and tho county officers from soiling tho railroad land within tho county for taxos. In this suit the commissioners considered it necessary to employ assistant counsel to the county attorney at an expense of $1000.00. Later the county again became Involved in a civil action with the Union Pacific railroad company in the United States court concerning tho county road which the county com missioners had located on the outer one hundred feet of tho railroad com pany's right of way. This litigation In the stato and federal courts also cost tho county over $1000.00 for attorneys fees paid to attorneys to assist tho county nttorney. Coming down nearer to present time, In June, 1914, the Union Pacific railroad company brought an action to compel the board of equalization to rntse the assessed values of all of tho lands situated In Lincoln county. Tho county commissioners again em ployed additional counsel to assist tho county attorney nnd this litigation is now pending and undetermined In tho district court of Lincoln county, Ne braska, and without doubt on tho ter mination of the enso in tho district court will be carried to the supremo court, ns all of those cases aro In which tho railrond company is a party. At tho termination of these suits this county will again bo called upon to pay auuiuomu attorneys iucs in u ..... 1 . ... . . I.' greater or lesser sum. These services should bo performed by tho county attorney without extra compensation. You elect a county at tornoy to conduct the litigation of tho county and advise the county officers, and If elected, I will conduct tho legal business of tho county without extra expense to the county. If at any tlmo I should feel that I require, or the com missioners feel that I lequlro assist anco, I will procure the necessary le gal assistance at my own expense. I believe the salary paid the coun ty attorney of Lincoln county Is suf ficient to procure tho best legal talent to attend to tho legal affairs of tho county. Respectfully, P. R. HALLIQAN.
