Edward Gllberg, unknown in this city, was found dcrd In the county Jail thism ornlng by the officers. He was thrown In last night for being drunk and died during the night, apparently from tho effects of his carousal. Ho carried a ticket from Point McDow ell, Cal., where records show he was discharged a week ago today from tho regular army, to Washington D. C. He got off the train here yesterday and was so drunk that the olllcers would not let him get back on. He carried no oth r identification besides the ticket and four discharges which show that he must havO been in the government service for about twelve years. He is a man about forty-five yearB of age and served ns a private. His discharges give him a good character and show that he must have had some money, having drawn $313.18 a weok ago, but he must have been robbed ns he had only $1.20. Over two hundred men and women gathered last evening on tho cpurt house lawn to hear Ex-Governor Al- drlch speak upon tho political issues of tho day. Tho speaker was intro duced by Attorney P. R. Hnlllgan, re publican candidate for county attorney and gavo an Interesting and Instruc tive address of about an hour's dur ation during which ho had tho un divided attention of the audience. He opened his nddress with an ap peal for woman suffrage or tho grant ing of equal rights to all citizens. Ho appealed to the men by stating that women wero taking tho lead in the important doings of our nation such ns Christianity and education. "Chris tianity without education would bo fanaticism," stated Mr. Aldrlch. "The women are taking tho lead In these two important fields of work and tho question arises why should they not be allowed to take part In all politi cal Issues?" Ho then took up the other issues of the day and stated that tho .strong ap peal made by( a recent Hpeakcr hero for endorsing 'tho present federal ad ministration by electing the demo cratic candidates was all "bally rot." He stated that tho stale government was the ono nearest our hearts and that wo should stand for good, clean state government. That the stnto dem ocrats and' tho national democrats wore political enemies. He took up different candidates and discussed them and regarding them he said, "Do not voto for a man because he is a democrat or because he Is a re publican, but vote for a man and a patriot; ono who ha3 moral stamina to stand nlono If he Is right." Ho then gave some statistics regard ing tho present "business" administra tion and showed that tho democratic administration has madcr appropria tions exceeding the last republican legislature by about $4,000,000.00. "Hero are some of them: Sergeant at arms $1,083; gato and door' keepers (two gates) $1,774; pages, $1,203; cus todians $7,330. Tho governor cither didn't know or didn't care where this money was being expended, or he was afraid, to uso his voto, on J.ho appropri atlons. A splen did chicken supper was served at 5:30 o'clock and tho patronago was such as to keep the tables filled until after seven. Tho hall Is prettily arranged with booths In which are sold many articles of- fancy work, tho display In this lino being especially large and handsome. In other booths a large variety of goods and wares are offered. Many entertaining features are Intro duced, somo of which aro quite novel and excite much merriment. There is also a fish pond, a duck pond with live ducks, nnd of course there aro a lot of sweet and pretty girls who sell chances on articles of morlt. Dancing Is held after nine o'clock, and during the dancing hours refreshments art sold. Tho probablo object of the girls' fair Is to earn money, and tho enthusiasm which they display in tho work is evidence that they will bo highly suc cessful In attaining tho doelrcd re sult. The gnmo was easily won nnd tho opposing team at no time had tho ball nearer than thirty-yards to tho North Platte goal. Tho locals scored touchdowns and Loudon kicked three goals. Tho fourth kick struck the goal posts and for that reason did not go through.
