Engineer Freneh, of the local elec tric and gas plant, spent the early part of the week In Omaha, and was present with General Manager Todd when an order was placed for nearly ten miles of gas mains which will he laid In North Platte To ho exact the amount ordered was fifty-two thous and feet. Tho contract calls for de livery In North Platte within three weeks, and upon the arrival of thoso mains the work of digging the trenches will hegln. It is the Intention of the company to employ local lahor In this work. In fact if resident laborers aro not employed it will he solely be cause they cannot he obtained. It can readily ho seen that the digging of ton miles of trench Is some work, and that it will mean tho disbursing of quite a sum of money to our laboring men. It Is probable- that by the time the trench es are completed and perhaps be fore work will begin on tho gas plant and power house, which means addlj tional employment for laborers and mechanics. Seven innings were played. Quite" a number witnessed tho game which was called at 5:110 and all the Episcopal rooters enjoyed it more than words can tell. The board of directors of the cham ber of commerce and the fall festival committee hold a joint meeting last ovenlng at the library building for the purpose of getting togethor on tho ontertnlnment featuros of the festival for this year After some discussion the committee reported that they would need about ?925 for tho ontor tnlnment features they were plannnlng and tho hoard voted to appropriate that amount to them. The festival this year will bo tho moft elaborate that has ever been held. One of the most Interesting will bo tho Palno fireworks display which will bo given In .tho evenings of tho Inst two days. These are very elaborate and very beautiful, also very expensive. The other events will nil be of great Interost and will be such as to attract a large crowd. The festival committee is planning for a number of free attractions of high class and thoso will requlro this large amount. This money Is to bo expended for entertainment nlono and Ib abovo what tho fair will require. They voted to dispense with a Fourth of July colebration In order that they might iuak tho festival tho much more altractlvo and this will suroly bo done. The board of directors also voted to furnish baseball suits for the North Platte baseball team and they appro priated seventy dollnrs for this pur pose. Eleven new uniforms will be .purchased as soon as possible and they will bo here for uso In the tour nament In" August and also for other games. , The matter of a membership cam paign was taken up by tho board and they twill start a campaign for mem bers In tho near future. A committee will bo appointed to look after this and It is hoped that tho membership can bo brought up to tho three hun dred mark or even better. Mr. Dixon then spoko in regard to tho typhoid cases in tho city and ask ed that something be dono to stop the hysterical reports that aro being cir culated in regard to conditions. Sev eral of the men present reported what was being dono and tho concensus of the meeting wa3 to the effect that con ditions arc much exaggerated and that every possible precaution Is be ing taken to check any condition that would brood typhus germs and that the, patients that aro down with it nre being given tho best of medical atten tion. Mrs. Hazen was formerly a resident of this city and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Artz. She 'also has a brother, Arthur Artz, living in the city. She left hero eight years ago. Mrs. Hazen visited here last summer. Tho cause of her death was not given. Mrs. Donald Goodwill and children, who have been visiting hero for somo time with Mrs. Goodwill's sister, Mrs. Lester Walker, will leave Monday for their home. Dies at Age of Eighty-Three Mrs. Katherlne Grady of this city died last night at tho homo of hor sis ter, Mrs. James Moran, residing on east Third street. She was elghty threo years old at the tlmo of her death and deat,h was due to genoral debility resultant from old ago. Mrs. Grady had made her homo hero for tho past four years with hor sister and Bhe had been in poor health for somo time. She lenves to mourn her death her sister and one brother re siding In Denver.
