Genesis 6.24,
The fifth chap
ter of Genesis con
tains a list of men
who reached re
markable a g o s ;
yet, with one ex
ception, It Is writ
ten of each of
t h o in , "and ho
died." This man,
who walked with
God, and did not
die, la ono of the
most attractive
figures In Scrip
ture. Ho lived amid
wlckod people.
Enoch's generation was ripening for
the flood, and every Imagination of
man'o heart was only ovll continually;
yet ho "walked with God." Ho encour
ages us to walk thus even under diffi
cult circumstances. Christ said to the
church at Pergamos: "I know whero
thou dwellest, oven where Satan's seat
Is: and thou holdest fast my namo
and hast not denied my faith." How
cheering to hear of "saints In Caesar's
household," and to know that Christ
fV) lived at wicked Nazareth that the
Father could say, "This Is my beloved
Son, in whom I am well pleased."
He lived in the twilight of revela
tion. Thero was as yet no Bible, yet
lie "walked with God." How shall ho
rise up to condemn us!
Ho was married. Some have thought
celibacy necessary to the highest holi
ness, but Enoch refutes the Idea. Wo
actually knew a mother who declared
she could not be a Christian until her
children were larger and less exasper
ating! But wo are told "Enoch
-walked with God after he begat Me
thuselah," and it is suggested that the
coming of this little life Into his was
the beginning of his heavenly conver
sation. His Walk.
He walked by faith (Hebrews 11:5).
Thero Is no record of him having rev
elations moro than wo have who also
"walk by faith." "Faith coraeth by
"hearing and hearing by the word of
3od," and such a faith is basis enough
for walking with God.
He pleased God (Hebrews 11:5).
How indifferent this makes us to
men's opinions! "It Is a small thing
-with me that I am judged of men's
Judgment." How blessed to know we
enn bring joy to the heart of God
and that we may "walk worthy of the
.Lord unto all pleasing" (Col 1:10).
Ho warned tho wicked. Jude tells
xis that Enoch prophesied, saying, Be
hold the Lord cometh with ten thou
sand of his saints, to execute Judg
ment upon all. Those who walk with
God long to bring to him "them that
are without." Good men may, like
Samuel Ruthorford, lack tho evange
listic gift, but they will have the evan
gelistic heart which made Rutherford
sing:
If but one soul from Anworth
Meet mo at God's right hand.
My heaven will bo two heavora.
In Immanuel's land.
He was progressive in holiness. He
walked with God, and pressed toward
the mark for tho prize. The perfec
tion of Christians on earth Is very
Imperfect, and even In heaven wo
shall still bo walking In white
His Exit.
His strange departure proved Im
mortality to be a fact, just as Elijah's
translation later assured Israel and
as we are assured by Christ's resurrec
tion His departure was felt Hebrews
says that Enoch "was not found," as if
they had nought him. Ho was misled.
It Is fctill so whon a saint passes Vlt
ne3s the multitudes that gathered at
the lunorala of John Wesley and Cath
erine Booth und Jerry JIcAuley.
He went out in tho primo of life.
Ho was taken when 3C5 years of age,
and as compared with others of that
day. this was just the morning of life,
corresponding to the ago of thirty
threo now. Wo wonder when men are
caught away just as their usefulness
begins. But suroly God docs not deal
unkindly with his friends. "To depart
Is to be with Cbrlht which is far bet
ter." "Taken away from the evil to
comp" -this might be written . of
Enccb and of many another saint.
His departure --ns easy "He was
not; for God took nlm," or as Hebrews
' reads ' God had translated him." Tho
psalmist seenin to apply the language
of the text to death Psalm -10 tr tolls
us, "He will deliver my soul from the
power of tho grave for he will take
me;" and Psalm 73.24 reads, 'Thou
wilt guide me by thy counsel nnd
afterward take mo to glory" Ah with
tho translated faint, ho with tho dying,
the Father will stoop .down to tho
child who has been walking with him
and men will say, "Ho was not; for
God took him " Spurgeon bears wit
ness, after ministering to many feeble
saints, that ho had not found one to
whom dying graca was not givon.
Moreover, should wo bo alive at the
Lord's coming, we shall be translated
as literally as Enoch. (I Thoss. 4:16.
A7.)

be made of this cloth. It is, of course,
impervious to water, and tho bathers

be water-soaked.
This rubber tissue is used for caps,
ties, and girdles, or sashes, oftehor
than for the bathing suit, perhaps be
causo it is a novelty which Is not
thoroughly introduced. And also cer

readily and hold color creditably.
Tho suit shown in tho picturo may
be made In either of these fabrics
and trimmed with cotton or light wool

Like all the garments now fashlonabm
it is cut on simple lines. Tho waist

This one-piece suit is worn over

A GREAT throng of smartly dressed
people, Now Yorkers, English and
people from tho "outside" world, gath

not fear any comparison. In tho
games tho English literally galloped
away with tho trophy, and tho Ameri

tho occupants of the boxes and grand
stands might have been matched
ugalnst any other such concourso, any
whero, as to the excellence of ttielr
appareling, it Is safe to say the Now

Tho Held was a cheerful spectnele,

Thero was a llboral display of col

qulto an Important element in tho
good effect of tho suit. It 1b an Item
of style, this dressing of the feet

shows, Is' qulto an elaborate bit of
headwear, qulto different from tho
slmplo puffed cap of rubber cloth
which preceded It.
But tho pretty bit of headwear pin
tured Is hardly practical for tho girl
that really swims. And she who dives
would be suro to leave it behind her
when she comes up. It Is all right for
those who only paddle about In tho

Every year the Importance of teach

them to learn, because they desire so
much to know how. Boys strike out

Thero were checks and bars In black
