Shaw is reported quite ser iously ill at her home on cast Eighth street. A girl was born Sunday to Mr. nnd Mrs. II. L. Kelso, residing on East FlMi street. Miss Helen Gleason returned yester day from Calloway where she spent several days visiting friends. J. Q. Wilcox returned last e zoning from Kansas City whero he spent n few days looking after some business mat ters. Mrs. J. N. Bonner and daughter Helen lft Friday afternoon for Denver to spend some time visiting relatives And friends. Tee land of Christ and E. P, Ras mussen, described as the southwest quarter of section nine, range ten, township twenty-eight, was .-up for sheriff's sale yesterday afternoon at the court house but wasunsoid for the want of bidders. . W. H. McDonald and family, F. L. Mooney and family and Y. A. Hinman and family, spent Saturday at Gothen burg on a capping trip. They Jpitched camp at the Gothenburg lake Saturday and remained until Sunday evening when they returned home. They made the trip in automobiles. Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. Weingand held a family reunion on their lawn Saturday afternoon and evening. Twenty-four wore present and a fine timo was re ported. The afternoon was spent with games and, with social converse and a nice picnic lunch was served. The rel atives remained until late and during the evening ice cream was served. Members of Platto Valley Lodge No. 32, A. F. & A. M. and sojourning brethren in good standing, are invited to meet M. W. Brother Thomas M. Mr. nnd Mrs Sam Soudor spent the Fourth visiting relatives and friends in the Fox Creek vicinity. Mr. Frame of the Hershey vicinity was in the city yesterday visiting friends and transacting business. Andy Scharmann residing in the. Fourth ward, has been laying off for several days on account of a sore hand. County Treasurer A. N. Durbin and family spent the Fourth visiting in Dickens and taking in the celebration. Mrs. L. E. Hastings nnd children, who have been visiting in Pennsylvania for six weeks, are expected home to morrow. R. A. Miller, of tha ice house gang is laid off for a few days with a cut on his hand which he sustained Saturday evening whiio at work packing ice. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Jeter and daughter Helen left last evening for Eagle Rock, Calif., where they will spend the summer visiting, Norman Louden, a cement contractor of this city, is suffering from a disloca ted knee as the result of celebrating tho Fourth. He attended a picnic and while jumping rope with the little folks he threw his knee out, tearing the lig aments quite badly, He will be laid up for some time with the injury. Miss Irma McMichael of the Howe & Maloney store spent Saturday and Sun day visiting her parents in the Well fleet vicinity. She reports that a two inch rain fell in that vicinity Sunday afternoon, -' It began to rain about 2 o'clock in the afternoan and it continued to rain until about 6 o'clock in the evening. In Sweden only 75 out of 2,000 exchanges give all night service, and these charge extra for night calls. In Austria less than 2 of the exchanges give all night service. In Germany all small exchanges close during the night, and larger exchanges charge extra for night calls. In England small exchanges are only open during tho day. In Franco small exchanges are closed at 7 p. m., two hours at noon, and after 10 a. m. on Sunday. American telephone service is 24-hour serv ice, and the rates here are the lowest in the, world. s l;-j NEBRASKA TELEPHONE COMPANY Commissioners'Call Court House Election At the meoting of the county com missioners yesterday afternoon thoy voted to call tho election on the court house special levy for August 18th, tho day of the primary election of tho county, This is to save the expense of a special election. Tho question that will be put up to the votors is whether or no thoy want n special fivo mill levy for four years for tho purpose of raising funds to build a new court house for Lincoln county. By voting a special levy there will be practically no interest to pay. The five-mill levy will yield a little over ono hundred thousand dollars in the four years and a fourth of this money will be before the building is started in cage the election carries. Hoforo the build ing is completed at least half of the money will have been collected and probably no interest will iie paid by the county. A brief description of the proposed building was submitted to the commis sioners and it comprises the specifica tions that will be used if the election carries. The proposed building will be 111x75 feet in size with two stories and a basement. It will bu (ire-proof throughout and will bo built of gray press brick with Bedford stone trim ings. It will be built in the most sub stantial manner and will be euipped with the most modern conveniences, including vacuum stenm henting system and heating fan-driven purified air for Ventilation. The interior arrangements includes the best and latest ideas, with large, commodious rooms for all the county officers, large roomy record rooms, dead record vault, overhead lights district tourt room with large jury room and a fine probate court room in connection with tho county judge's office. There will also be commodious rest rooms with toilets in connection for both men and women, where the far- mera and their families can find comfort ana a place to stay while attending to business at the county Beat. The entire building, including all equipments, is not to cost more than the tax levy will produce. The archi tect will guarantee this by a surety bond and every voter ean rest assured that when he votes for the levy he is voting for nothing more than is repre sented by the levy. Brown appoard before Judge Grimes in chamber session of tho district court Friday afternoon and entered n plea of guilty to the charge burglary. He -vas sentenced to from one to ten years in the state peniten tiary. Brown was arrested some timo ago charged with burglary of the North Side Hardware store and the C. O. D. Cleaning establishment. From the hardware store he took five revolvers and fonr razors. Two of the razors and the five revolvers were wore recov ered and fit the time of his arrost he had nil the money which he had taken from the C. O. D. cleaners dven to the marked quarter. That was returned lo tho clennors. Ho entered a plea of not guilty a few weeks in tho county court and was bound over to tho dis trict court under bonds of $500 which he was unableto furnish. He has been kept in jail awaiting the jury term of district court in December nnd ho finally decided to change his plen to guilty. He will be taken to Lincoln some time soon. Allen and family spent the Fourth visiting relat ives and friends in the Farnam vicinity. Mr. Allen returned homo Sunday but Mrs. Allen remained for a visit of a few days. The ladies guild of the Episcopal church will hold a musicale at the home of Mrs. G. T. Field Friday evening at 8:30 o'clock. An unusually fine pro gram of instrumental imd vocal music has been arranged for and a real treat is promised for all lovers of good nusic After the program ice cream and cake will be served. Evoryona is cordially invited tonttond. Admission L'5 cents Two boys giving their names as Bennie Rosson and Fred Borolin were brought before Count. Judge Grant Tuesday on th charge of petit larceny Complaint was filed this morning by Ed Hoitctter of Maxwell nnd ho alleged that the boys stolo two revolvers from him of the value of five dollars. Bore- flin pleaded not guilty but Rosson en tered a plea of guilty and was sen tenced to ninety days in the county jaili The other boy was dismissed. Tho men's brothorhood of the Luth eran church held a social meeting last evening at the home of iMr. and Mrs. Henry Hansen, residing eight miles west of the city. About forty-five men attended nnd a fine time was re ported. The men met at G:30 at tho Tramp store and went out in automo biles. Upon their arrival at the Hansen homo they wore cordialiy received and proceded to make merry. They first indulged in a ball game and this was followed by some fast boxing matches. After this they enjoyed a sumptuous supper and they spent the evening with social converse nnd singing. A business session was then held and they transacted the routine business of tre association. ' In a letter to Tho Tribune, L. 13. Isenhnrt, a former North Platto citizen writing from Telluride, Cal, says: "I have been jvorking at this place since August, 1913, for tho Liberty Boll gold mining and milling company, and as It is a good company to work for and a beautiful place to live in, we hnve moved here. Clyde nnd family are still in Denver. He is starting in us a rail way mail clerk. Bert is in Castilla county doing irrigation engineering for a company by that name, and Helen is here at homo," Sheriff A. J. Salisbury will leave in a short time for Lincoln where he will attend the national and state conven tions of county sheriffs. Tho conven tions will bo hold in Lincoln together and thoy will hold July 21st, 22nd and 23rd. Shcnff Salisbury has not missed a convention during his term of office and when he goes to attend this one he will probably take Geo. A. Brown with him to begin serving his term in tho ponitentiary. County Superintendent Cleo II. Chap pell left Friday for St. Paul, Minn, where sho will attend the National Education association which meets there this week. The association con venes today and will continue for the remainder of the week. It is largely attend by county superintendents, toachcrs and educators from all over the nation and a fine program has been prepared. The case of T T.
