Midnight Prowlers
Get Little Plunder.
. Robbers ontered tho North Side hard
ware storo some, time during tho night
and also the C. 0. D. cleaning estab
lishment and the Blalock feed store.
They succeeded in getting very little
plunder so far as can be discovered,
although they broke open the money
drawers and tho cash register in tho C.
O. D. establishment.
They made entrance to the hardware
store . through the back door with
a file. Four revolvors were taken and
four razors and a few shells and other
small articles. They toro open the desk
and broko into the money box, but it
contained nothing but papers. They
also broke tho mouey drawer with a
hatchet, but there was very little in it
jjind thoy took nothing. Tho-drawer
contained only a few pennies and some
trade chipa on the North Sido grocery.
In! the cleaners theyj pried open the
cash register and took $20.40 which
had been left The register is bent out
of shape and will need repairing. They
also broke it up In several places.
They tapped the money drawer of tho
Blalock feed store and tore it down in
getting in, but it contained nothing,
Entrance was gained through a rear
window and it is thought that they
opened it during the day, as it has al
ways been kept locked. They left a
knife which the had taken from the
hardware, store on the floor near the
cash register in the cleaning establish
ment. No clew as to the identity of the
robbera is had with the exception of
the hardware they took, which can be
identified-
Will Invite Postmasters' Convention.
The board of directors of tho Cham
ber of Commerce held a short business
session last evening on the stops of tha
library arid appointed M. J. Forbes,
W. P. Snyder and E, S. Davis as a
committee of threo to attend tho post
masters' convention in Lincoln next
week and extend tho Invitation of tho
Chamber to tho postmasters to meet
bore next year. Tho convention lasts
two days and is generally attended by
between threo and four hundred post
masters from over the state.
They also voted to announco that in
somucn as a number of the neighboring
towns wcro holding Fourth of July cele
brations this year they would dispense
with one hqro and visit some of our
neighbors and find out what they
aro doing and tha North Platte peoploare
urged by the business men to attend
tho celebrations at some of tho nearly
townsj
A secretary and treasurer was to
have been appointed at this meeting;
but it was voted to postpone tho ap
pointments until next week when the
president will be home.

Henry. Rjbhausen returned yesterday
from a business trip to Grand. .Island,,
Hastings and Kearney. Ho attended
Vhe liquor dealers' convention at Grand
island. He announces that at Kearney
they are making elaborate preparations
for North PJatte day Sunday and
that tho people going down from here-
may expect a good time.
Complimentary to her daughter, Mrs.
Fred Elliott, of Omaha, Mrs-. Samuel
Goozee entertained at a Kensington
yesterday afternoon. This was the
first of threo functions Mrs. Goozee
vrift give.
There will be the usual services at
the Lutheran church next Sundoy
throughout the day. The pastor expects
to return from his Kansas trip Saturda
morning.
Grasshoppers have appeared in such
large numbers in Dawson county that
a meeting of farmers has been called
at Lexington tomorrow to take some
concerted action to get rid of the pests.
Mrs. I. L. Bare and Mrs. W. H.Mun
ger, Jr., will entertain at cards at the
homo of the former tomorrow afternoon..

Sacred Concert.
The choir of the Presbyterian church
will give a sacred concert at tho
church Sunday evening, 1" with Miss
Esther -Antonidos as director. The
musical program will consist of nn
thema, male and mixed quartettef,
solo by Miss Antonides, congrega
tional hynns and organ prelude and post
lude by Hiss Esther Hogsctt. In addi
tion there will be invocation, respon
sive reading .and benediction. The
choir will eppsist of fourteen voices,
with Mr. Brown as accompanying
violinist.

tire side of his face. The cancer has
spread to such proportions that he is
in constant agonyjand the doctors have
faint hopes for his recovery.

Miss Mildred Scharman, who has
been teaching school in Iowa, is visiting
Mrs, John Koontz.
Attorney J. J. Halligan left laat even

North Platte Elks' ball team is sched
uled for a game in that town Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Winn, of Kear
ney, came Wednesday to attend the
fnneral of tho late Mrs. W. S. Dolson.
Automobile tourists are passing
through in goodly numbers, the average
for this week being a half dozen cars a
day. As the season ndvances tho num
ber will increrse.
Tho little son of Mr. and Mrs. Larkin
Cecil, residing on West Tenth street,
fell Thursday evening and broko his
arm. Both bones in his right foreaim
wero broken. vModical attention was
summoned and ho is' reported getting
nicely.
The North Side Pirates defeated the
round house team Wednesday evening at
tho round house base ball diamonds by
tho score of 3 to 1. The game was fast
and exciting and the re WRfl not an. error
on either side. Tho first fwo innings of
tho game was marked with no runs and
only one hit. Only' ono man even at-

Wooton and Coberly were batteries for
tho Pirates and P. Haggerty and T.

Suit was filed last evening in tho
county court by Maurice J: O'Connell
against Thomas J. Long for the col
lection of a reward of $25 which the
plaintiff alleges was offered by the de
fendant for tho conviction of parties
furnishing liquor to his son, Ed. J.
Long. Plaintiff alleges that he knew
of the public offer and went to work
with the Intention of convicting the
guilty parties and succeeded in convict
ing Will and Joe Hunt in Justice I. L.
Miltonberger's court. That since that
time he has often requested tho pay
ment of tho reward, but that the de
fenddant has neglected and refused to
pay. Ho prays for the reward of ?25
,and tho costs of tho sujt. Tho offer
was mado publicly about January 31,
1914, and tho two men were convicted
in February.
The work of grading down Bopch
hill on tho Tryon rond will bo started
soon. Tho county commissioners and
County Surveyor Cochran woro out
there this week and estimated tho
amount of work necessary, A half
mile grade will be greatly reduced and
the road will bo covered with clay.
Henry Wallace, of Des Moines, la.,
was a visitor in tho city this week and
stopped out at the experimental Btation
for a short visit with Supt. , and Mrs.
W. P. Snydor. Ho was onroute
to his ranch in the Birdwood vicinity to
spend a short'time on business,

week at the intersection of Locust and
C street.
