Mr. and Mrs. W. II. LoDoyt and
daughters returned Tuesday from
Sidney where they visited for several
days with relatives and friends.
Miss Margaret Mettin has resigned
her position in the Ca'.lender store and
left this week for Omaha where sho
will make her home in the future.
Joe Larson, chief clerk to District
Foreman McGraw. went to Omaha
Tuesday night to receive treatment for
an eye that has bcon in a serious coudi
tion for some time past.

Tho body of the baby boy of Mr. und
Mrs. T. J. Foley was disinterred Wed
nesday by Howe & Maloney nnd was
shipped to ICansaB City for burial. The
child died twenty-four years ago while
Mr. Foley was in tho merchandise busi
ness in this city'. Ho was about eighteen
months old at tho time of his death,
which was duo to dipthoria. Mr. and
Mrs. Foley moved away from here over
twenty years ago to Kunsas City and
have lived there since. Mrs. Foley was
back a few days ago andmude arrange-
ments for tho removal of the body.

Upon petition of Uert Nigh, Judge
Grant issued nn ordor Tuesday restrain
ing Mr. and Mrs. John McDonald from
delivering tp Mre, Florence Nigh her
two year old child. In Docember, 1912,
Nigh secured, a. divorce from his wife,
Florence Nigh, pn tho ground that she
was n habitual drunkard, but on her
promise that sho would reform sho was
given the custody of their one offspring.
It is alleged, hqw.evor, that Mrs. Nigh
has continued Iter libations of the flrey
fluid, and probably to escape responsi
bility placed the child in tho cars of
Mr. and Mrs. McDonald. Nigh lately
began an action. In the Perkins county
court to gain tht custody of the child
and fearing that pending the hearing
of the action the divorced wlfa would
geek to gain 'possession of the child
thwartod such aption by securing the
restraining order, All parties in the
case are residents of this city.
Definite Steps Taken
for Public Playgrounds
About fifty mon and women were In
attendance nt tho meeting Tuesday
evening at the court house to talk over
the plana for a public, playground for
North Platte and an enthusiastic meet
ing was held. Miss Anna Kramph wns
elected chairman of the meeting and
Hruce Brown secretary. The atten
dance was made up of members of the
Twentieth Century club, teachers and
the committees from the Chamber of
Commerce and the brotherhoods.
Tho question wns largely discussed
from many angles nnd it was decided to
appoint u committee of six with Miss
Krnmpli as chairman to negotiate for
the arrangements. Tho committee has
not yet been appointed but will be an
nounced soon. Four of tho committee
will be chosen from the Twentieth
Century club.
A block of ground near the green
house, belonging to the Annheuser
Busch company, has been offered to tho
city free for use as a public play
ground but nothing definite has yot
beon done. Miss Kramph has mado all
tho negotiation thus far. It was
planned to hire nn experienced man to
take charge of tho children. It will
require several hundred dollars to pro
mote this project and a campaign for
funds will be madoin the near future.
Tho Chamber of Commerce has already
appropriated $100 for this purpose and
several citizens have signified their in
tenion of contributing to the fund.

Petition for North Side Saloon. J S
At the meeting of the city council
Tueseav evening u petition signed by
thirty-four froe holders was submitted
to that body asking that the saloon dis
trict bo extended to tako in the fourth
ward and that they bo allowed to oper
ate a saloon. Julius Mogensen is tho
applicant for a saloon licenso. The peti
tion was read and was referred to the
ordinance committee to come up at the
next meeting.
A delegation of the plumbers of the
city appeared before tho council with a
new ordinanco governing the plumbers
that are licensed from this city. The
ordinance was rend the first and
second time wns referred to the
ordinance committee and they wero
ordered to report nt the next meeting.
The bill of Mrs. Pulver for taking
care of smallpox patients was allowed
for $106 instond of $53 as was allowed
before. The bill was $133 but was dis
allowed for that amount at a previous
meeting as that was considered exorbi

field workers in Lincoln will not go to
tho beat fields in tho northwestern part
of the state this year unless the price
usually paid for work is given them. A
number of families here, in the aggre
gate making about 200 workers, havo
annually fc tho last ten years emi
grated to tho beet fields of Nebraska
nnd Wyoming und worked the fields
receiving $20 per acre for their work.
This year tho company which employs
them is only offering $18 for the same
work.
In the game of ball Tuesday after
