Editor Tribune One of tho argu inontB against the gas franchise is that wo cannot nfTortl to uho gas at $1.G0 per thousand feet. Past cxperionco proves to me that wo can cut our fuel bill in half to say nothing of tho con venience of gas ovor coal. Wo used gas in Omaha two provlouB years bo foro coming to North Platto. My wife did her own washing, baking and iron ing and wa lind ono gas jet in tho kitchen for light. Gas in Oinaha at that time was $1.35 per 1,000, cur bills averaged about $1,25 per month. Now figuring coal at $S.2G per ton 1 don't think the nvorngo family can get along with less thnn hnlf a ton a month. I know wo uso nenrer a ton. Now it doesn't tako much figuring to sco whoro I would make a saving of ovor GO por cent to any nothing of tho conven ience to my wifo, that is surely worth something. 1 want gas for tho renoon stated nbovo if for no othor. "Will tho voters of North l'lntto ovor voto bonds to tyuild ft plant here, and if thoy did could thoy furnish gas any chenpor than this company f Thoy would uso tho streets and alloys just tho snmo and every property ownor would be tnxed to pay for tho plant whother thoy want gas or not. This eompnny wnnts tho privilege of putting in a modern plnnt without costing tho citizens of North l'lntto one penny and it will bo optionnl with tho peoplo whothor thoy buy their protdirt, r not, and wouldn't it 1)0 worth somotlliiig to North Platto to huvo this outsido capi tal invested hero? "Somo say wo should build our own Tilnnt for our children's sako. 1 don't believe a modern city plant now would do tho kids much good. T think it would bo worn out nnd out-of-dnto bo foro tho kids aro grown up nnd besides that' 1 would prefer to live as I go nlong nnd give the kids tho bonoflt of it while thoy are young. Somo object bocnupo' it is outsido capital who is holding tho bonds that wero sold to "buy tho water works lioro and wlicro docs tho JjvfijOOO intorest go every year that is being pnid? Is nnyono in North Plntto getting any of it? I guess not. And aren't the 'consumers pay ing ns much for water as thoy ovor did and tho additional oxuonso of nut ting in meters too? Tho fnct still re mnlns you owe money for tho wntor worKs, just tho same, nnd bv tho tuno its pnid for it will bo fit fo'r junk. T kick on turning theso men. down nnd then go right; on.paylug the coal trust $8.25 for coal and the Standard Oil bunch what they sco fit to chargo lis for oil and gasolene, nit! ' "I am a votor and tax payor and n rnilroad man and I can sign my namo too, nnd horo it is. OEO. O. TREXIiER, i (103 West nth street. James Bound Oyer District Court.
