Paul Nolan, Francis Dunn and Jay Smith, members of the Knights of Columbus, will go to Keffmey next Saturday to attend the initiation nnd banquet which will be held by the order Sunday. At a late hour n nice luncheon was served to the guests. A. J. Murrish of Hastings, arrived in tho citv this morning for a visit at the Braft & Goodman office. Mr. Murrish is state agent for the Columbia Fire In surance company and announces that the office here is one of tho largest and strongest in the state. He will ac-cnmpany-Mr. Goodman on his- trip through tho northern part of the county aud through Logan and McPhorson counties They lef this moruing in Mr. Goodman's car. A veryenjoyable banquet was held last evening by the members of Com pany Q at their club rooms at 820 West Sixth street. About thirty-five men were ptesent and were served with a fine chicken dinner which was followed by an evening of jollification and gen eral trocd fellowship. Attorney James T. Keefe and H. Scoonover were guests of honor and each of them responded with interesting toasts. Tho occassion was the celebration of the home coming of a number of tho members who at tend school away from here. Wessberg and Smith had charge of the serving and Chef Nprns prepared a fine feed for the men. A call has been issued for a masa meeting at the court house Thursday evening for the purpose of placing in nomination non-panison candidates for the board of education and a council man for each of tho four wnrds. All interested aro invited to attend. Principal G. H. McGrow of the high school faculty has announced that ho will again enter the state univorsity next fall and take more advanced work thero for tho purpose of obtaining some more degrees. Mr. McGrow has been here only this year, but in that time he has shown his ability both as an instructor and all-around school man. The loss of a man of Mr. Mc Grew's ability and integrity will bo doeply felt by the reople of this city. Mr. McGrew haB had six years of uni versity work and his education is not limited to any one line, but he has had a good practical training in several lines. A basketball team from the local high school held a practlco gamo Saturday evening with the Hershey high school team and tho game resulted in a victory for the local men Dy a score of 16 to 15. Dr. J. T. Kerr officiated as referee. Tho local men are developing into good fast players and will be ablo to put a good" strong aggregation in the field next year. The team that played Satur day was mostly made up of members of the Junior class, all of whom will be in school next year, and they showed up in good form for a short time they have been playing. From tho report of tho state board of health, a copy of which has been sent to this ofiico, wo learn that for the j ear ending December 81, 1913, there were 286 births in Lincoln county, 1G0 of which were mnles nnd 125 fe males. During the same period 122 dcatliB were repoited. The marriage and divorce record for 1913 is not given, but for the your 1912 the number of marriages in Lincoln county wns 14G and the number ot di !orres was twenty-sis. . Johnson of tho Nichols neighborhood received a check for 815. a blue ribbon nnd was awarded the $250 silver tjophy by the Nebraska State Corn Show held in Lincoln during the month of January, for huvingon exhibition the best half bushel of wliout. This half bushol of wheat was the sumo that carried off first prizo nt the Hershey Short Course last foil and also took first premium at the county fair. It will now bo shipped to Ten nessee to the National corn show soon to bo held nnd no donbt it will enrry off high honors tlioio. While tho trophy was won by Mr. Johnson, it does not became his unless won three years in succession, howovor tho honor is one that he mny well feel proud of. The trophy will bo on exhibition at several places in Hershey during the yonr. Hershey Times. For Sale. Tho fire department was called out last evening shortly after 8 o'clock to tho home of Charles Herrod, 702 West Fourth street, where one ot the out buildings next to tho garage was ablaze. Tho firo had gained very littlo headway boforo tho depnrtmont arriyed and it was soon put out without nny great damage. Evidence in this caso would tend to show tho work of incendiarism. Thero was a large amount of kerosene all around tho building und no other cause for the fire can be discovered. The blaze started all at once and flared up from the first as though it had been set and fed with kerosene. Chief of Police Frazier will investigate tho case today and if possible run down tho cause.
