In sharp contrast to the manifest ex travagance and incompetence charac toriat of ordinary road management Is tho excellent record being made by Polk county, Nebraska. This county is not singled out for mention for invid ious comparion with other counties, but because of the fact that they hnve jtacklcd tho road problem there and 'handled it successfully without wailing for government aid. Reinforced con croto bridges, built by local lobor under the supervision of tho county highway overseer, and uniform grading and maintenance by the use of n power out fit owned by tho county have given to Polk county ronds made of ordinary Nebraska dirt which are an object lesson to good roads advocates who are spending lots of unnecessary enthu siasm over macadam highways and booster campaigns. The best kind of a good road is the ono which runs from your farm to tho nearest market; which is built (in Nebraska) of tho ma terials which tho Lord gave us and which can be kept in goqd repair by the expenditure of a minimum nmount of monoy and tho exerciso of native common senso.
