FRIDAY. SEPT. 26. 1913.
MLeypoldt & Wickstrom, of Hershey,
have closed a contrnct for the sale of
9,000 worth of sweet clover seed. The
greater part of this was cut by the firm
on lands adjacent to Hershey. If is
now estimated that thirty-five thousand
dollars worth of swet clover seed will
be shipped out of Lincoln county this
fall and winter. Several cars of this
seed will bo shipped to Sioux City.
This is the fall wo have no politics in
Nebraska, the ono year in forty odd
without a state or county election.
Thanks to our legislators in tn future
we will have nn election but once in
two years instead of every year. Of
course hero in North Platte we will
continue to havo special elections
cralorc thanks or curses, which-cver
vou nloase. to our adoption of the
initiative and roferendum.
A number of Lincoln county men
who attended tho state fair this fall and
nlso saw the exhibits at the Lincoln
county fair, have no hesitancy in saying
that tho Lincoln county exhibit, so far
as It went, surpassed any exhibit nt
tho state fair. They agreo that our
showing of grain, vegetables and
grassos surpassed in quality those on
exhibition at Lincoln. All of which
speaks well for Lincoln county.
The firo Tuesday evening demonstra
ted two things: That North Platte's
firo department is in a badly
disorganized condition, which is not
duo so much to the members as it to
the penurious treatment the department
haa received at the hnnds of short
sighted citizens who oppose oycry effort
made to better tho department. The
othor demonstration was the fine proa
suro given by tho now pump tit tlio
wator plant.
Copies of tho Cody, Wyo., Herald
received at this oflico tell of tho recep
tion tendered Prince Albert, rulor of
Monaco, pnd tho opening of the Park
county fair, In both of which ovonts
Colonol Cody and tho two will devote
Colonel Cody figured conspicuously.
Tho Princo is tho guest of
some thno to hunting big gamo in tho
Big Horn mountains Under tho Col
onel's direction a frontier day program
was givon In connection with tho opon
ing of tho county fair.
Thore is much buncombe about this
talk that the furmor though he raised
lesi corn this yoar than Inst, ho will
not fall much behind bocauso tho price
of corn will be higher. This reasoning
would bo all right If tho farmer sold all
tho corn ho raised, but in a Bhort year
liko this ho has no surplus, ho must
feed to his horses and his milch cows
nil thnt ho grow. To such n farmer it
is a disadvantage, rather than an advan
tage, to have corn prices exceptionally
high. How can ho bo benefitted by
eighty-cent corn if ho has none to sell?
At th Mothodlut conferonco hold at
Lincoln last week, which called out tho
attendance of 400 ministers from ovory
section of tho state, It was announced
openly that tho automobile is a great
hindrance to church attendance. Mem
bers possessed of nn automobile, or at
least many of them, prefer a rldo on n
pleasant Sunday morning or on a balmy
Sunday evening to n pew In a hot, stuffy
church, and tho risk of a sermon that may
bo tiresome . That thoy should havo such
n profcrenco is only human nature,
though some of our more radical Meth
odist brothern may dub tho automobile
a creation of the devil.
Mrs. John Worthly Is reported to be
quite ill athor homo in tho Second ward.
Mrs. O. II. Thoolocko left yostorday
morning for Omaha to visit relatives
for a week or moro.
A baby boy was born Tuesday to Mr.
and Mrs. A. Toons, who live several
miles north of town.
Attornoy Ctlssman, of Cedar Rapids,
came a few days ago to transact busi
ness horo for a wook or moro.
Dr. AVurtele loft the first" of "thTs
woek for Denver to visit friends nnd
accompany his family homo.
Mrs. John Nisloy and family came
Tuesday evening from Elm Creok to
make their home In this city.
Mrs. Clarence Tollofson, of Suther
land la spending this week with hor
sister Mrs. "SY. H. C. Woodhurst.

evening from Omaha whero he trans
acted busluess for several days.
