Karl Brodbeck, who does tho killing for the Brodbeck & Son meat market, was accidently shot through the right forearm Wednesday evening by hia nephew Harry Brodbeck. The two men had gone to the slaughter houso to kill several beeves. An unruly Texas animal had been driven In tho killing chuto, and Harry armed with a 44 calibre gun stood on top of the chute with his legs straddled and his feet resting on the 2x4 cross-piece. The animal became vory restless and his constant motion precluded an opportun ity to shoot. Wishing to take advan tage of the first chance, Harry had drawn back tho hammer and then the animal made a charge, pinning Harry's leg against the chute. This unbalanced him and in attempting to savo himself the gun was discharged. Karl was standing on the ground near Harry, and the bullet passed through his right arm and plowed a shallow furrow downward along the hip, making a bad flesh wound. In passing through the arm, the bullet splintered the under part of the bone, but it is believed the arm will not be permanently effected. Dr. Dent was summoned and rendered the necessary medical aid. Harry Brodbeck feela badly over the accident, but it was through no fault of his that it occurred. Mr. FARMER: Why not Build a Silo? N. In early spring the church decided to erect a new parsonage, and purchased lots in the Cody addition were they moved the old house. A new, modern seven room house was ereeted at a cost of some $2300. It has been occupied by the pastor and family since May the 30th. Upon completion of tho parson age the church entered at once into an active campaign for enlarging and im proving the church building. Plans were made and accepted for th en larging of the church. "Red" Clark, a butcher by vocation, was slashed on the right sido of tho faco Wednesday evening by a knife in tho hands of a Mexican. Tho Mexican and n companion had kicked Clark's dog, and the latter remonstrated; the Mexicans responded by ogain kicking the nnimal, and then Clark slapped one of tho mon, whereupon tho other drew a knife and made a couple thrusts at Clark, ono of them cutting a gash in face, not deep, however. Clnrk then waded in and knocked both greasers in the gutter, and they were later arrested and tnken to jail. By an unanimous vote Tuesday even ing the city council adopted a resolu tion introduced by Councilman Hoag land making it optional with those who havo put in water metres whether they pay a flat rate for the water used during July, August and September, or whether they pay for the metre meas urement. In view of the fact that less than half the consumers have installed metres, it is only fair that those who have placed metres be given this option, for it is generally conceded that the flat rate consumer hus used more water than has the metre consumer; tho for mer has wasted water while the latter has conserved it. An ordinance creating sewer lateral G, which is composed of four blocks in Miller's addition was passed, under a suspension of the rules. . j. Tho ordinance granting a twentvHlvo year electric light franchise to .Frank T. Hadiey, and one for a cas plant for similar period, was readby the clerk and will come up for action at a future meeting of the council. The committee to which had been re ferred tho petition nsking that picture shows be allowed to operato on Sunday, reported adversely, and the report was adopted with only ono dissenting vote. This kills tho proposition unless those favoring such a move petition tor an election under the initiative law. Tho street commissioner was ordered to have the First ward hose house moved to tho city lot on Front street, where it will be used as if store house for city property. The other two hose houses will bo sold. Despondency. Is often caused by indigestion and constipation, and quickly disappears when Chamberlain's Tablets are taken. For sale by all dealers.
