Mr. and Mrs. Miner Hinman returned Friday evening from a short visit in Hastings. H. P. Hansen came down from Pax ton the firs.t of this week to visit, his family. Miss Erwin, of Kentucky, is spending the summer with Mr. and Mr3. William Hendy. William Adair left yesterday after noon for Denver to spend several days on business. Thomas Green came up from Grand Island yesterday afternoon to transact business for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Jame3 Downing will leave shortly for New Hampshire to make their future home. New Saloon District. At tho meeting of the city council Tuesday evening an ordinanco was passed changing and defining the boundaries of the district in which saloons may be established and opo rated. The ordinance in full is published else where in this issue. Begins Erecting New House. Picard Bros, are getting out the frames for Mrs. Lottie Cronen's new house on west Sixth street, for which they wore nwarded the contract some time ago. Tho houso will bo two stor ies, cost about 3,600 and is erected for renting purposes. Visiting Friends in Town. R. L. Graves one of tho -western selling agents for the Sherwin-Williams Paint Qo., wjth headquarters at KansaB City, arrived Tuesday to spend pnrt of his month's vacation with old time friends. Mr. Graves' customers are railroad companies and large corpora tions, and he visits only tho largor cities of the middle west and south. Adjust Losses at Hcrshey. W. H. C. Woodhurst has been devot ing the greater part of this week to adjusting the losses at Hershey sus tained by tho recent wind storm. There were thirty-one losses to adjust, and in the work Mr. Woodhurst was as sisted by A. E. Huntington. Tho' sev eral companies holding the insurance selected Mr. Woodhurst as adjuster. Mrs. Kellv. mother of Mrs. J. W Fetter, of Maxwell, died Wednesday at the age of fifty-seven years. Herbert T. Duke who has been ill from ptomine poisoning for some time is reported to bo much improved. Miss Eunice Babbitt expects to leave Wednesday for Denver and other Colo rado points to spend several weeks. Mrs. Seilison and daughter, of Key stone, are spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Frederickson. Mrs. Minnie Rasmussen and Miss Anna Rasmussen, of Keystone, are spenping this week with town friends. Charles and Harriet Dixon have is sued invitations to a dancing party to be given at their home tomorrow evening. Mr. and Airs. Stitt, of Hastings, re turned home Wodnesday evening after a short visit with Mr. and Mrs. Minor Hinm an. Ask Bids for Sewer. Elsewhere the city council asks for bids for the extension of the sewer in District M., the district lying between Fifth and Sixth streets. This sewor now extends to the west line of tho 700 block, and the plans call for an eXten- tion to the west line of the 1200 block. The estimated cost is $1031. Cy Russell, tho jolly blacksmith, yes terday purchased of Derryberry & Forbes a new tractor engine and thresher, which he has placed in charge of competent operators. The outfit wilj begin work in a few days on tho south side of the rivei, and Mr. Russell snys he has enough work in sight to keep the outfit busy until snow flies Cy will continue to pound iron while the thresher makes him money on the side. The Same Old Trouble. Engineer, John Strahorn leaves the latter part of the month for Cherokee Park where ho will spend five weeks in order to escape hay fever and inciden tally fish for trout. This is John's an nual pilgrimage,, and he finds the trip a paying investment by reason of tho re lief he secures. He has been suffering from the trouble for several weeks, and is anxiously awaiting the day set for his departure for the park. Buys and Razes Tift Barn. D. W. Besack, who purchased tho Tift corrugated iron covered building on east Sixth street, has torn it down and will use the; mnterial in tho con struction of two cottages on lots he owns in the Trustee's addition east of the Wm. Maloney residence. The ma terial in the barn, generally speaking, was found to be in excellent shape and can be used to good advantage in erect ing the cottages. Mr. Besack may de cide in the future to tear down his brick barn and sell the site or erect other buildings thereon, as the advent of automobilo has put the livery busi ness largely on the dead hook, Bybee & Cahal are erecting a houso for Mrs. D.
