Will Build New School Houses. Elsewhere'in this issue School Dis tricts No. 3 and No. o advertise for bids for the erection of new school houses. Distiict No.5 lies north of the' river, and ha already five school build ings. The estimated cost of the new building is $700. District No. 3 is southeast of town and the new building, which is to be 28x30, is to take the plate of the old log school house. Miss Irma Johnston returned yester day afternoon from n six weeks' visit in Grand Island with friends. Oceans of Corn. From Ft. McPherson east to Gothen burg bridge the country south of the river is nlmost one continuous field of corn, and it is certainly in fine condition. Looking down the vnlley as far as the eye can. see the vista presented is that of nn ocean of fluttering corn stalks, and the scene is certainly not only pretty but gratifying. The Davis Garage reports that they are entirely out of of the small touring enrs and l'oadsters and have just a few Model J)ls left. No more can be obtained this season. The new models will prob ably bo delivered in September. While driving a rnke on TTianch at Potter Saturday the team of mules be came frightened and ran away, injuring Roy Ames about the face nnd head and breaking one arm. He returned home and will bo unable to work for some time. John Holcomb, of Maxwell, was in town Sunday enroute to Texas where ho goes to purchase cattle far the Hol comb ranch. The grass is fine in the pastures; and in order to consume it the number of cattle now 700 will be in creased several hundred head. Mi". The Willow Island ball team was de feated on the local grounds Friday afternoon by a score of twentv-one to one. Sunday the toam played a return game at Willow Island and won by ' a score of four to two. This last game ' was an interesting one, notwithstanding! tho ' the North Platto team played rather raggedly. There were about five hun dred spectators present, seventy-live automobiles being counted on the grounds. Fifty or more North Platte people Were present. Will Attend Grand Encampment. The grand encampment of the Knights Templar will bo held at Den ver August 12 to ICtli. A committee appointed by tho locol commandery is now ascertaining how many members wjll attend, and while the number is not now definitey known, it is probablo that the commundery will be well rep resented, some of whom will be accom panied by their ladies. It is probable that a dozen special trains of oastern knights will pass through North Platte August 10th and 11th. J. H.
