II incy and his neighbor, Harris, going home from Tryon, tho county scat of McPhorson county, overtook Charles Schoringor on foot, and offered him a rido. A few minutes later without any apparont rea son, Schneringer attacked I laney with somo heavy instrument and jumped from the wagon trying to drag his victim out. Harris belabored Scheringoi with a buggy whip wlien Scheringer made a strong gun play, but did not shoot, and then lied. Harris took Hanoy home and found he was probably fatally injured. A doctor was called from Tryon and ar rived several hours after Hanoy's death. Scheringer leaves a widow and small family, but they know nothing of his whereabouts. Ho hns heretofore bore a good reputation". The victim was an old man and a highly respected citizen of McPherson cdunty. When tho death of Hanoy became known a poaso waft organized and a search instituted for Scheringer, but latost reports say ho has not been ap pruhendtd. If found it is probablo that he will bo summarily doaltn with. Local and Personal James McMlchoal went to Ogalalla yasterday morning on business. During the month of April finnl proof was mado on 43,100 acres of land in the North Platte land district, tho entries on which prffof was made averaging about 425 acres each. Patents or deeds for this Innd will be received from the general land oflioe at Washington with in the next four months, nnd tho 100 or more homostcaders who submitted their proofs will como into full ownership of tho land. While practically all tho vacant land remaining in tho district is in smnll tracts, yet during April entries were made on 4,978 acres. However, a con siderable portion of theso ontries wore made through the relinquishment of tho former entryrnen. About one-third of the North Platte forest reserve which is to bo opened for settlement in October lies in tho North Platte district. The total acreage of tho roserve is somewhat in excess of 300,000 acres, so tho oponing will throw into this district about 100,000 nares. If the 040-acro law applies in thfS open ing, which is probable, tliore will bo 150 or 1G0 full section entries. However, it is not probuble that each entry made will be a full section. Bancroft's garngo building and mnchinery, by ordor of tho U. S. district court, took place last Wedncsdny nftornoon, being in accor anco with proceedings in voluntary bankruptcy. Tho liabilities amounted to about $12,000 while tho as sets, according to Mr. Bancroft's statement, footed up to tho neighbor hood of $17,000, The highest bid re ceived was that of tho Dawson county National bonk, $3,300, that being tho amount of Mr B's secured indebtedness to tho bank. The transfer of the property to tho bank will go through if tho snlo is confirmed by tho court. Lexington Pioneor. To Auto Drivers. Auto drivers are notified that tho law rwlating to tho speed of cars will bo en forced. Tho speed limit is twelve miles on streets, which must bo re duced to six miles when passing over street intersections. Tho law relating to lights on curs nt tho specified time will also bo enforced.
