The Jupaneso invasion of Nebraska during tho last decado is tho most sig nificant radical change shown in tho bullotin of tho buraau of the census re specting the ethnic composition of Ne braska's population. Thoro were only two Japanese in tho state in 1890. The concus of 1910 shows 590. The Jnpaneso population is practi cally confined to olovon counties. Two thirds of them nro in throe counties, Douglas, Scottsbluff and Lincoln. Twenty or mora are found In each Cheyenne, Custer, Hall and Thayer counties. There arc 112 Chinese in the state. Of these fifty-four are in Douglas county and twenty-fivo in Dawes. The census of 1910 revoalcd only four in Lancaster county. Tho Indian population of the stat has Increased 8 per cent in the Inst ten years. The totnl now is 3,3502. Practi cally the entire Indian population is concentrated In Thurston county, whero thoro are 1,915, and in Knox, whore there aro 925. Nebraska Statistics. Lincoln News: Tho last census taken of Nebraska showed a total population of 1,192,214, us compared with 1,000, 300 ton years before. It Is also showed another very intorosting fact, and that la that tho stato is now very lnrgely. de pendent for her growth upon tho num bor of persons born within her confines. In 1890 the number of persons in the state who wore born outside the state was 519,131, or Gl.l per cent of the total. In 1900 tho number born outside Nebraska was 427,891, or 48.1 per cent, whllo in 1910, tho number had dwlndlod to 420,001, or but 41.4 percent. In twenty years, thoroforo, tho total has dwindled 129,000. in tho meantime tho number born in the state has increased from 307,237 to 59.J.GG1. It may be of interest also to note that tho number of Indians in the Btnto has increased from 3,320 in 1990 to 3,400. Tho negro popu lation in 1900 was G.21G, but In 1910 was 7.692, of whom 1,057 had been born in sldo tho stato limits. The striking fact is that, the number of native Ncbras kans has almostdoubledin twenty years. Col. Win. Hoatty, of Brady, was, In town yesterday, hoving returned' Fri day from tho inauguration ceremonies at Washington. While (n tho nations' capital ho met Judgo J. w! Bixlor who piloted him around the public buildings and other points of interest. The Colonol reports a vory onjoyablo trip. He left with J. E. Evans a picturo of himself attired in his military uniform and also u photograph of himself and Judgo Bixler both attired bi evonlng dross. In both plcturos the Colonel shows up splendidly. Wo ull deplore tho death of eight peo ple in wrecks on tho Union Pacific during tho late blizzard, yet only tako passing notico of tho deaths, In New York City alone during tho year 1912 of 221 by nutomobllo accidents. This is greater than,, tho number of passengers killod In this country last year in rail road accidents, this latter number being 139. Senator Hitchcock will" soon have twenty-fivo postofllco appointments to recommend, In which tho commissions have expired slnco Docombor 1st. In cluded in the twenty-fivo nro Hastings and St. Paul, Tho Senator will not ask for lietnl-olcctlona to find out tho most popular applicant, preferring to assume that responsibility personally.
