With n population of 15,08-1 in 1910, Lincoln county had 1.7G2 pcoplo of foroign birth. In tho country of birth Gormany leads with 530, Sweden Ii second with 330, Greece third with 171, Denmark fourth with 168, Ireland fifth with 113. Thirty claim Turkey as their birth place, fivo Russia, three Belgium and fifty-six Austria. The foreign born residents of Lincoln coun ty represent twenty-threo different nationalities. In 1910 Lincoln county had 1,738 more males than fomales. The total number of males of voting age was 4,892, and of this number 2,701 were of native parentage. In the county In 1910 there were 1E9 illiterate persons, nineteen of 'Whom were native born, the remainder foreign. Those figures are taken from a census bulletin just Issued. The lower house of the legislature on Tuesday jumped on to the fifty-car train hill with both feet and knocked it out by a brutal majority. Some of the legislators looked on tho bill as a big joko. In his speech before the Nebraska legislature Wednesday Secretary of State Bryan, who came from Washing ton to attend the banquet given in his honor by tho democrats of tho state, mado this atntement: "Mr. Toft i'b one of tho most lovable men I ever mot and ho goes out of office respected more than any prosfdent for some timo. It was not President Taft who was de footed, but the principles of tho party back of him. Fourteen of tho olghteen votes against tho bill were those of republican members. Forty-seven of tho Bovonty-ono votes for the bill wero thoso of democratic members. It may thus bo said that tljo democrats favored and tho republicans opposed tho bill.
