REPRESENTATIVE
To the People of Lincoln County.
Knowing my positive unworthlness
and lack of ability to represent tho
thrifty and Intelligent people of our
county in tho legislature, I mado no
particular eirort to win the election as
representative from the 08th district;
but bh the voters of the county rvo me

tako this mothod of expressing my ap
preciation of tho honor shown mo, nnd
submltJicrowith my position no to the
vital questions which are not only be
fore tho people, hut questions which
will como up at this coming session of
our legislature.
Believing, as I do, in the wonderful
nnd un-developcd agricultural possibili
ties of Western Nebraska, I can easily
ndvocate and stand for nil legislation
that has for its prime motive any meas
ure will bring about better results for
those engaged in tilling tho soil for a
livelihood.
Tho needed legislation to encourage
irrigntiop in our county, and farther
west in Nebraska, must not bo neglected
and 1 think as farmers and business
men wo aro in unison in this matter.
To this end I pledge all my constructive
energy and co-operation with my col
leagues. Our various experimental fnrms
agricultural schools and all public in
stitutions need appropriations which
'will permit their advancement as well
as their existence. To all these matters,
and to our great Nebraska University,
1 Intend to support as nocucu and ex
pected of euch loyal legislator,
I stand for Mother's Ponsions,
Woman Suffrage, tho mnintainance of
the eight o'clock closing law and if a
measure for county option comes up I
' shall support it to the last ditch.
To the farmer, who works the long
est hours and receives a less por cent
incomo from monoy, time and energy
expanded, than any mnn, or sitt of men
in buoInoBS, I shall pledge himself for
his intorest at all times.

STEVENS' ADDRESS.
will work a hardship upon tho many and
extend financial advantage to tho few,
I shall put forth bitter and constant,
and I hope effective antagonism.
I believe that the Liquor Dealers
Association of Nebraska should be
thrown entirely out of politics nnd I
think that a county "option law will bo
tho first blow to that strong and cor
rupt organization.
I invito and urgo the co-operation of
all constituents to bring about useful
and economical legislation and realize
that I am your servant to do and to
represent you in as honorable and up
right a manner as is possible for me to
do.'
In making this brief campaign, I
mndo but one promise, that, to support
tho peoples choice for U S. Senator.
That pledge will bo fullfillcd. I make
my second promiso to tho voters now:
I will not, at any time, cross tho thres
hold of any lobbyist's expensive suite
of rooms, knowing it to be such, being
full aware that tho rights of the people
can be decided and chosen without con
sultation with any human vulture who
represents solfish and spocial interests
of somo grasping and unrighteous
organizations, whose end is to control
the rights of tho people in general.
Any man lobbying for an unreasonable
and uprighteous cause, I will not only
ignore but hold in utter contempt.
I am a firm believer in the recall and
nt any tlmo will submit to such, if the
popular demand of tho constituency
prevails.
As I have struggled and attempted
to build up a business here in Lincoln
county along perfectly legitimate lines,
so will I use that same constructive
energy to bring about beneficial and
economical legislation during this ses
sion of tho legislature.
I have a desire to go to Lincoln with
the nnmo of every voter in Lincoln
county in my pocket, nnd I herewith
ask tho men who hnvo charge of the
poll books to furnish me, as far as pos
sible, tho namos of every voter therein,
regardless of hie political fnith.
