Senator W. V. Hoagland " mndo n splendid record in tho last suasion of tho legislature. Very few members of that or similar bodies have over made such a splendid record for effective work, and especially when tho member belongs to the minority party. ThcBonato files introduced by him and which wero passed occupy a consider able portion of tho session lnws. By Senate files 225, 22G. 202. 203, 20-1, 152, 159, 190, 191, 192, 230, 293, 15G.828, introduced by Mr. Hoagland nnd which wore passed, valuable change." and ad ditions wero "made in the irrigation laws of this state. He was also the author of Senate file 175, published as Chapter 184 of the session laws of 1911, providing for the indeterminate sentence of certain .con victs nnd for the establishment of n state prison board. S. h'. Ifo. 307 relnting to the judiciary, 201 relating to municipalities, and 370 relating to running waters wore pre sented by him and wero passed. He was a usoful member of that legislature. Ho is needed by the district and by Western Nebraska in the next legisla ture. Ho stands with his party for leg islation which will build up this stato and keep it in front ranks of commer cial and industrial excellence. Taft Electors on Ticket. Tho supreme court of Ncbrnskn at noon Wcunosdny announced a unanimous decision affirming the action of the district court of Lancaster county in issuing a peremptory writ of mandamus directing the secretary of state to place tho names of six Taft electors, chosen by tho republican stato committee, on tho ballot as republicans, instead of tlio six bull moose electors, who were chosen as republicans at tho primary and afterwards deserted tho party. Secretary of State Wait had antici pated tho decision and had already bo gun tho preparation nnd printing of tho ballots with tho Taft electors at the top under tho designation of republican and tho bull moose electors at tho bottom designated "progressive." Keep the Record Straight. Tho New York World, a strong dem ocratic pnpor, disputes tho claim of tho moosors that tho attempt on tho life of Roosevelt wns inspired- by political abuse of Mr. Roosevelt. "Now it hap pens," says the World, "that there has been n good denl of abuse in this enrnpnign nnd most of it originated witli Theodore Roosevelt nnd his fol lowers. No other candidate for presi dent over indulged in such sweeping denunciation of his opponents. No other eandidntO for president evor appealed so frankly to tho passion and frenzy of his audience, To select a few of mnny examples: Day after day Mr. Roosevelt has compared President Taft to a "crook," ton "thief," to a burglar," to a "pi rate," to a "pickpocket," to a "receiv er of stolon goods" nnd Hiram John son, Mr. Roosevelt's nssociato on tho ticket, has traveled from one end of the country to tho other cnlling Presi dent Taft "the most humiliutihg figure in American history." Even the day that ho was shot, Mr. Roosevelt de nounced tho conduct of tho govornor of Illinois as "infamous" because Gov. ornor Denoon rofused to support Mr. Roosovelton tho third party ticket. Juno 3 Mr. Roosevelt said of Presi dent Taft thafhlgh-mindod nnd honor able mpii would refuse to accept dele gates" such as Mr. Taft had gnined in Ohio. Juno 11 ho doclared that Mr. Taft's attitude toward the presidoncy "comes dangerously near being tronson." Juno 15 ho nssortcd.that tho contest bqjtwccn himself and Mr. Taft for tho . nomination was a "fight botween osty nnd dishonesty." Juno 15 ho issuod a statement rang with tho words "thoft" "stenling" and "fraud." June 10 ho issued ii statement lion- that and that rang of "nuked theft" of the national committee, nnd tho men who had "earned Mr. Taft's gratitude by steal ing for him." When Mr. Taft wns finally nomi nated ho publicly insulted him as "tho uononciary or successtul fraud," and ins uollgnt on his recent western was to describo the president of United States as "a dead cock In trip tho tho pit." Mr. Roosevelt was not shot becnuso of "abuso" if anybody had been Bhot because of "nbuse"it would havo been William Howard Taft president of tho United States and not Theodore Roosevelt, Lot' us keep tho record straight.
