The republican state convention Is called to meet In Lincoln July 30th for tho purpose of adopting n state plat form nnd selecting a state central com mittce. In this convention Lincoln county is entitled to ten delegates. Upon his return homo Govornor Iladloy of Missouri, who left Chicago without having made further declara tion that he would not bolt, made a public statement to the effect that while thcro are absent from tho repub lican platform a few planks which he would have desired, the platform is on the wnole, tne most progressive we have ever presented to tho American people. And he adds that ho will bo able to accomplish moro by remaining in tho republican than by joining any third party .v In speaking of tho renomination of Presidont Taft, the Fremont Tribune aays: Those who have opposed tho president havo been unablo to offer a good roason for so doing. He has pur sued his policies with a deep conscien tiousness and his policies generally have been good policies. True mistakes have been made, but they wero tho mistakes that would havo been credited to any honest man. It can be truthfully said of President Taft that he has done as well as any other man would havo done undor the circumstances. What he has ho accomplished without tho aid of brass bands. He has pursued a business like course. Ho has not played to the galleries. His enemies as well as his friands charge the present occupant of tho white houso with being a poor politician, meaning that he has not played a political game for votes. And thorein has lain tho opportunity of tho president's enemies who l'avo mndo tho most of his political frailties. The opposition has found its biggest nsset in tho fact that the presidont did not, while looking after the people's Intorest, In an honest, conscientious way, pay mnch attontlon to popularizing himself with them; to paying sweet-sounding music to thoir ears thru tho medium of press agents. Six Months of Business For tho first six months of 1912 busi ness has had n sort of hurdle race, but it has cleared every obstruction and is In excellent condition for tho next lap. Tho year opened under more or less of u spoil of uncertainty duo in part to conditions of the few years preceding, and in part to tho coming national cam paign, yot that uncertainty kept within limits and as soon as tanglblo evi dences of prosperity asserted them solves, business quickly responded. According to all authorities, the gen uino elements of good times are now with us. Low stocks assure immediate employment of labor without delay for consumption of present supplies. Crops aro improving, weather conditions are favorable, Lnbor, though, not as sorene, as it might bo, is yot not menacing Ono national convention is over and another passing and business, surviving the first tremor of suspicion, now looks on tho political situation with moro complacency. Railroads are faring better than they wore, ordering new equipment for transporting fall crops and money a plenty is in sight for the formers' freight purposes. Omahu Boo. Sunday School Convention. The Sunday school convention hold at Spannuth, in tho northeast part of this county, last Sunday waB a great success. Tho program commenced at 10:00 n. m. and included tho balance of tho day and evening session.
