E. J . Collins, whom ho was escorting
to tho ponltontiary to serve a sontonce
of from fivo to ten years for horse
stealing. Collins served a thirteen-year
sentence in tho pen for killing an Om
aha man in 1894.

Bulger Makes 'cm Laugh.
"The Flirting Princess" played to a
large audience at the Keith Friday
evening and everybody was thoroughly
pleased with tho performance. Harry
Bulger, the comedian, brought forth
much laughter by his funny sayings.
The singing and dancing was good and
the scenic effects splendid.
Many Tourists Passing Through.
As the season advances the number
of auto tourists is increasing and as
many as a dozen cars a day paas
through, tho larger part of which are
west bound. A family of four driving
a Stoddard-Dayton and enroute from
Grand Rapids, Mich., to Los Angeles,
were fn town Sunday. They left homo
May 31st and are making tho trip in
easy stages.
Waltemath Breaks An Arm.
Henry Waltemath suffered tho frac
ture of his right arm Sunday morning
while in tho act of cranking his six
cylinder car. Accidents of this kind
are rather common, this being the third
to occur within a week, tho other two
victims being Mr. Oestrich and Russell
Bedell. Tho "kick" of a gasoline en
gine is even more dangerous than tho
kick of a full grown mule.
Will Arrive Tomorrow.
H. E. Fredrickson, Mayor Dahlman
and several other good roads boosters,
who are making a trip from Omaha to
Cheyenne for the purpose of spreading
the gospel of good roads, are scheduled
to arrive hero at noon tomorrow and
will spend an hour or so with us. Sev
eral cars loaded with enthusiasts will
go down the road during the forenoon,
meet the Omahans and escort their, into
town.
. Mrs. Duke Elected President.
The first annual convention of Dis
trict No. 7, Degree of Honor, Ancient
Order of United Workmen, held nt
Sidnoy the latter part of last woek was
well attended nnd proved very interest
ing and successful. Mrs. Magnolia
Duke, of this city, wns elected district
president for tho ensuing year. Mrs.
Duke has for years been a very en
thusiastic worker in tho local lodge, and
her selection as district president is a
compliment to her and the North
Platte lodge.
Trip to Europe.
W. T. Wiicox and J. J. Halligan left
Sundny night for Chicago to have a
look in at the republican convention.

to Quecn8town, visiting Ireland, Scot
land, England. Franco and Germany.

Honor for Brady Boy.
Robert H. Beatty, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. Beatty, of Brady, who grad
uated from the University of Nebraska
law school, wns one of the six selected
for membership in thoTheta Kappa Nu,
tho honorary law fraternity. This honor
is bestowed by reason of high standing
in studies during the entiro three years'
course. The Tribune is mightily pleased
to have a Lincoln county boy merit this
honor, nnd congratulates Robert on his
standing.
Fine Flag Day Program.
Tho Flag Day exercises at the high
school auditorium Friday afternoon
was attended by an nudienco that prac
tically filled tho soating capacity of the
room. The major part of those present
wore students at the junior normal
though there were quito a number of
members of the G. A. R. nnd W. R. C.
Tho program, as published in these
columns, was carried out in its entirety
and each number was excellently ren

County Assessor Bacon nnd his
deputy Mrs. Nona Boyer are now
footing up the assessment returns of
the various precincts. Whilo the total
has not yet been ascertained and the
official abstract will bo not made until
the state board of equalization finishes
its work, which will do about Julv 1st.

every precinct, is greater than four
yenrs ago, whilo tho assessment of
personal property will Bhow a decrease
over last year. The vraiso in real
estato is confined exclusively to good
farm land grazing land remaining nt
tho same valuation as in 1908. The
falling off in personal property is due
to a docreaso in tho amount of property
rathor than to a lower valuation.
August 4th is tho reported date for
placing in service tho new do luxo
const train. Tho cquipmont for this
train will bo now and luxurious, nnd the
locomotives of tho latest type. The
running time between Omaha and San
Francisco will bo several hours less
than the presont No.l nnd for tho priv
ilege of riding on this train nn extra
charge will bo made.
