which was held at Fremont last week.
A. E. Smith, who wa3 arrested
Tuesday of last week on the charge of
boating his wife, was fined ono hundred
dollars and costs in the county court
Saturday forenoon. Not having funds
to pay the assessment, ho was re
manded to jail.

John Saltow has nccopted a position
at tho Timmerman hotel succeeding
Georgo Atchey, who resigned.
Water Commissioner Hershey Welch
received word today that one hundred
and ten of tho new Hersey wator
meters had been shipped from Boston.
Saturday evening thero was a social
at tho Y. M. C. A. rooms. After an en
tertainment and several short talks by
the visiting secretaries ico cream and
cake was served.
The J. S. Davis Auto Co. has just
sold a Hudson "33" to Hi Smith. J.
S. Davis and Mr. Smith drove the new
car out from Omaha arriving hero Sat
urday evening.
Sixteen head of western cattle,
averaging 1489 pounds, sold in iho
South Omaha market yesterday at nino
cents por pound. In Chicago big steers
sold for $9.40 per hundred.
Charles Tlghe and Frank Dunn of tho
Nyal Drug Store received word yester
day that they had successfully passed
the examination before the State Bond
at Lincoln and are now registered
pharmacists.
J. C. Keen, father of Mrs. Jenkins
and Charley Keen, died May 8th at
tho ago of eighty-eight years. The de
ceased was a rosldont of this section
for a number of years and will bo re
mombered by many of our people.
Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Dixon and
daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham
motored to Gothenburg and Cozad and
returned in tho former's new Studo
baker E. M. F. 30 car, driving a total
of 140 miles during the day.
Tho Ritner House changed honds
yesterday, Edward B E. Bennett,'l of
Minneapolis, taking charge. A few
changes will bo mado in tho interior in
order to make it tho most desirable
hotel in the city.
Clark Oborly, of Lincoln, stato bible
school superintendent of the Christian
church, will address tho bible class
workors of North Platte at tho Christian
church Thursday evening at eight
o'clock. This is a raro treat for all.

school of music at tho Keith last even
ing was a rare treat for the largo
crowd of music loving people who at
tended. The carefully selected pro
gram was composed of sixteen numbers

structors and pupils.
The Mothcdist Esperanto club will
meet tonight in the church at 8 o'clock
sharp. The following program will be
given: Himno, Esperanto Abroad, Mrs.
Lucas; Translation, Mr. Reynolds;
Foreign Travel, Mr. Flowers; Esperanto,
Himno. Tho Presbyterian club is

Frank Barton, living near Bigncll,
was arraigned in tho county court yes
terday on tho charge of threatening as
sault on the person of Paul Meyer, of
this city. Meyor had gone, through
Barton's land In order to reach the tow
heads where ho wunted to obtain elm
trees. Barton objqeted to this trespass
and Meyer claimed that Barton pointed
a loaded gun nt him. Tho defendant
wns fined one dollar and costs.

"tho Wonderful Hill" at the experi
mental farm' three times in succession
without stopping the engine or tho
forward motion of the car. That how
ever was nothing out of tho ordinary
for this car. as it has been n continu
ous winner of hill climbing contests of
national events for some time past.
Among these hill climbing contosts
won by tho Flanders 20 are Columbia
Heights Hill at Minneapolis, Lafayette,
Ind., hill climb Apr. C, 1912. and the
Georgian hill climb held on tho 14th of
tho present month.

Big Day at O'Fallons.
Friday, May 17, being the Inst day of
school, fcthe ladies and misses gathered
at tho schoolhouse and gave their hus
bands and bachelor friends tho finest
dinner they have had the pleasure of
partaking of for some time. After
dinner everybody adjourned to Davo
McConnelPs blue grass pasture whero
the afternoon was spent in sports, the
most interesting being the ball game
between the O' Fallon Brownies and tho
South Side Giants. Tho score was 2 toO
in favor of the Giants. This is tho first
time theso teams have ever met and tho
first game of tho season for both and It
is hoped the Brownies will be ablo to
show them something before the season
is over. Hard thing to do boys.
