Senator Hitchcock says tho demo cratic party in Nebraska is boss-ridden, ' referring of course to Colonel Bryan, who is determined that no democrat with a show to bo elected shall re ceive the nomination for president. There is no question hut Bryan ia in a recoptive position; ho is not an avowed candidate but ho wants tho lightning to strike his rod for the fourth time. In other words is tho democrats can throw their support to the nomination of a weak republican candidate with the assurance that at tho following election he can bo de feated. This mode of procedure has been demonstrated in this state, and was forcibly illustrated in North Dakota last week when thousands of democrats voted for LaFollette. That policy, it may bo remembered, was to botho ruin of tho railroads, according to thoir managers. It is only a year or oo since the refusal of the interstate commerce commission to prevent a general increase in freight rates crip pled tho roads again, an their managers assured us. In view of these successive wounds It is interesting to find through a now rate book of railroad credit that thobonds.'and stocks of the roads are in remarkably sound condition to this day. John Moody, author of "Tho Truth 'About Trusts," has issued an analysis of railroad investments show ing that 84 per cent of tho outstanding issues of railroad bonds aro what might bo called doublo first-claBS in vestments for Bafoty. And notwith standing tho vast amount of watered stock known to havo boon issued, C8 per cent of tho stock Issues aro paying 7 por cent or more. Three-fourths of tho railroad stock issues aro paying dividends. Obviously, tho railroads 'havo been well treated, ann havo no causo for complaint.- Stato Journal. Taft Supporters Confident. A Washington special to yesterday's Omaha Bee says:-Tho climax of tho republican pro-convontion campaign will soon bo reached. Developments this week will leave tliu opposition to President Taft's renomination scattered nnd shattorod. This week will seo It materially in creased and by Saturday ho will have passed the 750 mark if things go as in dications point. Indiana's action is foreshadowed by tho primaries which turned the stato convention over to tho president's sup porters and givo him a majority of tho districts. Now York also has given so many preliminary evidence of its pur pose, tho Now York City republican clubs' unanimous endorsement of tho president boing tho most recent, that a favorablo outcomo Is concecded oven by opposition. Only eight delegates woro elected last week, oxclusivo of tho ten in North Dakota, which Senator La Fol lotto easily won at tho primaries in n contest with Colonel Roosovolt. Of tho eight dolegatoB chosen six woro in structed for President Taft, with a contest promised in the caso of two and two aro pledged to him.
