CmmpUm f Hifk Taxation.
Residents of the city as well as those
of the country precincts arc doing con
siderable "kicking" on nccount of the
high taxes; But it Is only another ex
ample of the cost of high living nnd not
tho high cost of living. In the country
precincts hotter roads and bridges are
demanded, hotter school buildings nnd
n higher grade of tcachors; in the
towns wo clamor for morti modern con
veniences nnd advantages, and to se
cure all tlicso means n moro laylsh ex
penditure of money, and this, of courso,
must necessariiy incrense our rate of
taxation. In North Platte about one
third of all the taxes collected go to
the support of our school-in some of
tho rural school districts, where new
buildings havo been erected, tho pro
portion is evon grcator.
Our high taxation and we must ad
mit it is high Is largely duo to our
modorn demands, and not to oxtrava
ganco and so-called ''graft" on tho
part of our country officials,
Hjtakre WH Fifed.
In Its general advancement and pro
gression North Platte has not neglected
One important feature the establish
ment of institutions where the sick can
be treated and property cared for by
and under the direction of skillfull
bands. Three years ago North Platte
crkl net have a hospital, today it has
two tint are well established and
equipped and a third that is coming
ink) prominence. At present these
institutions are filled to their capacity
in fact tho two older of tho thrco are
planning enlargements, Patienta from
s wide scope of county arc brought
hero for operations or trentmont,
whereas formerly they woro taken to
Grand Island or Omaha. To have these
hospital located hero is a great con
venience and help to tho people of this
seetkxi.
