Welcome Home, Buffalo Bill.
North Platto is justly proud of the
lion. Win. F. Cody, though thoro are
nioro hero who know him as plain Bill
ho has dono much for North Platto nnd
this city with its loyalty and never
tiring devotion has done much 'to spur
tho great old scout on to bigger nnd
bettor things through a life covering
nearly a half contury and which has
BproAd its efforts over the entire civil
ized world. BufTalo Dill created right
here )n our midst the groatcst amuse
ment enterprise this of any other country
has ovor kntfwn or ever will know. It
was here on the site of tho Cjody homo
stead in 1892 that Bill JJody Sncoive'd
the idea of "ftvWild Vycst, one that was
to carry, its mossago of peace and no
gress to tho futhermost corners of the
world.onc that was to gain international
repute fonts author and his loved town,
ono that waB to carry the b inner of
North Platto and its famo to every man
woman and child of every nation.
Thoro have been Imitators of thn
wild west, thoro havo been Frontier
Days, there havo been Mountains nnd
'Plains celebrations, there have been n
dozen other ventures of a kindred
nuturobut to Buffalo Bill Cody and tho
good old town of North Platto all credit
Is duo, and tho world at largo knows
this and is generous in giving praise
wlicrq ,it belongs.
Col. pody has toured tho world, he
has hott showered with overy honor
that America nnd Europo can give to a
distinguished man and noyj ho is on tho
homo ward stretch; ha is paying his
fnrovvoll visit to us, in the saddle on
August 10th. Tho old days have
passed, time has ebbed him nenr the
share of well deserved rest and at the
conclusion of his farowell Buffalo Bill
will never again bo seen, in tho saddlo.
Whnt more fitting tributo could he pay
to the city that saw Its inception than
to hring his Wild West hero for a final
engagement, to pitch a mammoth
acreage of tents on the snmo ground
that nearly thirty years ago saw hia
first efforts, where he began a career
as a showman and an educator that has
resulted In tho most gigantic under
taking ever conceived arid successfully
put into execution.
Buffalo BlU'wlll bid yotf good bye in
parson; ho wants to gather just once
more with those of the old timo friends
that are left. Ho wants to shake hands
for the last timo and tell you he has
tried to carry the message well and
honorably, that his mission is about ac
complished, that lie will, soon be with
you again but next time without the
trappings of Buffalo BID, just morely
the man, one that is loved tho world'
over, the honorable William F, Cody.
