by automobile. The special will be in
charge of Dan V. Stevens of Fremont,
and will bo accompanied the entire
trip by Bcvcral prominent citizens of
that town. Among them Ross L. Ham
mond, R. B. Schneider, T. L. Mathews
Paul Colson, Burnoel Colsen, Dr. Ovor-
gaard and Geo. Losey.
Tho Idea of this organization is to
promote good road's sentiment all over
the stato in general but particularly
along the Platte River valley in order
that trans-continental tourists may
tako this routo In preference to all
others. To bring, about tho coopera
tion of local authorities along tho route
from Omaha to North Pla'to, exclusive
of Douglas county, n prize of $300.00 is
to be given tho township having the
best road across .it and a prize of $500
n cash will be paid to the county having
tho best road along this lino. The time
set for tho judges to pass over the road
will be sometime in September. This
will bo a trip made for tho purpose Of
dedicating the road and will consist of a
gTrat number pf automobiles and sev
eral hundred people. It will bo one of
the biggest events of tho year in Ne
braska.
Tho Good Roads Special which starts
out Monday morning, Juno 5th, from
Fremont will hive as its mission a pre
liminary survey of tho routo with
consultations with locnl committees
and Good Road Meetings along tho lino
wherever it is practical to arrange for
them. The plan is to mako tho trip
going to North Plntto in three days
stopping tho first night in Central City,
tho second night in Kearney and tho
third night in North Piatto, which will
be the end of the run. It is expected
that local commercial clubs and auto
mobile clubs and boards of supervisors
of cilch county through which the Good
Roads Special passes will join in the
boosting of this most commendablo en-
torprisa by-meeting the good roads
special at the couty lino nnd escorting
it across tho county, stopping whore
ovor necc&snry to cxamino the espec
ially difficult pieces of roads and con
sidering tho best way of repairing
thorn.
Tho party will arrive In North Platte
at four o'clock Wcdnosdny, Juno 7th,
and wi'l remain here during the night.
They suggest that n good roads meeting
bo called for that evening and tbo matter
discussed.
