The democratic tie-up in the state If.
Dnhlman and Hitchcock and Shnllen
bergcr and Metcalfe. Which do you
think will win out at the primaries next
Tuesday?
At tho Shnllenbcrger headquarter
tho prediction Is given out that he wi!
win tho democratic nomination by a
large majority. There is nothing to in
dicate, they say, that Dahlman will
make a strong run.
Mayor Gaynor, of New York, who
wad shot in the head Tuesday while on
a vessel about to leave for Europe, will
probably recover. Tho man doing thi
shooting was n discharged city em
ploye. The Uurlington crop report predictu
a corn crop In Nebraska of about sev
enty per cent of tho average. Thin
prediction is based on the condition of
tho crop along tho Burlington lines,
which cover a big section of the state.
This paragraph from tho Omaha Bee
Is good advice: No republican should
throw his vote away on Mnyor "Jim"
In tho coming primary. Governor Shal
lenbcrger has the nomination nailed
down, and republicans should voto In
their own party column to strengthen
their own ticket all along tho line.
R. 0. Ross, ol Lexington, who fijed
petitions as a democratic, republican
nnd populist candidate for congress,
spent a day or two In town thlB week
getting a:qualntcd with tho people.
Mr. Ross is not conslderated n form
idable candidate by tho other gentle
men who aro after tho nomination.
John Wilson had a quarrel with his
father at Tecumseh, Nebr., thirty-ftvo
years ago and ran away from home,
and had not Binco seen his parents. Tho
other day he returned to Tecumseh to
claim the estate of his now dead par
ents valued nt $30,000. Ho cstabllbhed
his claim and the court awarded him the
property.
Lincoln county will pay $21,658.30 as
its share of running tho Btato govern
ment for the year 1910, In other words
that la tho total state tax that has been
assessed by the state board against the
property in tho county. Last year tho
tax was about one thousand dollars
greator.
The Wall Street Journal, wfllch keeps
pretty close tab on tho proposed ex
penditurcs of railroads In tho way of
improvements, Bays tho Union Pnciflc
will build ten now shops. No point on
tho Union Pacific system needs a now
shop more than North Platte. May wo
hopo to see ono of tho ten located at
this division terminal?
Tho atato board of assessment com
ploted tho equalization as between
counties Tuesday and found tho
assessed valuo of tho state to bo $111,-
958,35-1, an increase of nearly $13,000,
000 over last year. TIub assessed valuo
is one-fifth of tho real value. Tho as
sessed valuo of Lincoln county this year
is $4,931,601, an incoasu of $253,307
over 1909.
With favorable weather conditions
and tho delay of frost until a later
dato than tho avorngo, lato corn will
make n good crop. Tho consensus of
opinion Is that tho corn crop In Lincoln
county will bo Bovcnty-ftvo por cent of
the nverage crop. This being true, the
fanners of Lincoln county will not bo
as nearly bad oil" as was thought a few
weeks ago.
If you aro a democrat or a republican
you can voto nt tho primary for any
candidate or candidates of tho opposite
party, but In doing so you forfeit the
right to voto for any candidato of your
own party. Romember this! You can
not vote for democratic candidato or
candidates, or for a republican candi
date or candidates, and havo your bal
lot counted. Voting for candidates of
more than ono party Invalidates your
ballot. Keep thin In mind.
Tho humdrum of army life nmong
tho westorn posts has been broken by
ordorsjfrom tho government to send out
the troops to fight the uncontrollable
forest fires in Idaho, Washington, Ore
gon nnd California. Ilnvlng established
this precedent, tho Lincoln Journal Bug j
gestB that next summer when harvest
hands nro unobtainable, that tho gov
ernment send tho troops to help out
the farmers.
- Fred Georgo, of Brady, administra
tor of the estate of Fred George, Sr.,
has dlsposcd of tho property of tho es
tate and Judgo Grimes has ordored a
partition of tho assests which in round
numbers amount to $33,000. This sum
' will bu divided equally between tho
) Boven heirs.

Leslie, tho fifteen year old son of
Mr. and Mrs Jamca Martini, of Suth
erland, died at that place Wednesday
morning. With his mother ho had re
turned from a trip to Oregon and other
western points, taken for tho purpose
of benefiting his health which has never
been good, but shortly nfter his return
ho was taken much worse and death en
