Semi - Weekly Tribune Ira L. Bare; Editor and Publisher. SUBSCRIPTION HATES. Ono Year by Mail in ndvanco $1.23 One Year by Carries in ndvanco $1.60 Entered at North Platte, Nebraska, Post ofllco as Second Class Matter. FRIDAY JULY 15, 1910. There nro now three candidates for the republican nomination for United States senator. First is Senator Bur kett, who desires to succeed himself and is unquestionably deserving of n re election; tho Becond is Banker Wheedon, of Lincoln, who finds fault with every thing done except what ho does himself; and the third is Alf Sorenson, of Om ahu, whoso enndidacy is tho political jokoof tho year. There is no question as to the result of this fight Senator Burkett will win hands down. Tho democratic state convention to bo held at Grand Island on July 26th promises to bo a most spectacular af fair. Arrayed on one side is Mr. Bryan and his county option ndhercnts; on the other Governor Shnllonberger and Con gressman Hitchcock and their follow ers. Tho Omaha Bco is of the opinion that skeletons in tho closets will be opened to view, and that porsonul ques tions reluti ve to Govenor Shallonbergor's actions and tie-ups in the 11)08 cam paign will bo asked. There is evciy in dication that this convention will be worth attending for tho purpose of seeing the fireworks. A. E. Cndy, of St. Paul,Jins filed as n candidate for governor, ami his name will appear on tho primary ballot. The Tribuno regards Mr. Cady as ono of the strongest men intellectually in the state of Nebraska; a successful busi ness man, and though long associated with tho republican party in Nebraska has ever proven himself a clean man politically. Ho is a man of just such calibre ns wo need in tho governor's chair fearless and honest, and with tho intelligence to do tho right thing at tho right time. The Tribuno certainly feels very friendly to tho candidacy of Mr. Cody. Elsewhcro B. K. iBushec, of Kim ball, announces himself as a candidate for re-election as reprcscntativo from this district, lilt. Bushce was a mem ber of tho legislature two years ago, and was active in advocating measures of interest to his constituents, One of the important questions that will como before tho coming legislature will be a re-apportionment of the stato into senatorial and representative districts. At present this senatorial district is composed of sixteen counties, whilo tho representative is almost as largo. This is an injustico to tho pooplo of western Nebraska, and Mr. Bushce stands pledged, if elected, to assist in remedy ing this matter. Ed Springor, of Brady, present chair man of tho board of county commission ers, and for six years a member of that body, announces that he will bo a can didate for re-nomination. That Mr. Springer has well served tho county and tho taxpayers must bo admitted by all those woo hnvo taken an interest in county affairs; if ho has displeased any it has been becauso whero thera aro contending factions both cannot be pleased, but in each instance his voto or his decision has been for what he considered tho best interests of all. Certainly Mr. Springer can go before tho people with a record of six years and not Buffer by nn investigation.
