Mr. and Mrs. Will Stroup returnod
last night from Chicago, to which city
bv tho nrcsidential alcction, and the
disappointment which followed tho fail
ure of tho Burlington to build its Platte
valley line, tho material progress made
by North Platto during 1908 makes a
very crcditablo showing. The total im
provements made during tho year did
not equal those of 1908, when the total
wns $383,000, tho decrease being largely
due to tho fact that the Union Pacific's
Improvements for 1908 wcro $60,000
less than In 1907. In tho number of
residences built there was a decrease
of twenty, tho number boitig seventy
in 1907 and fifty in 1908. Thero was
nlso a decrease in tho amount of city
improvements and sidewalks, seven
miles of tho latter being laid in 1907
and a little moro than threo miles in
1908.
Tho most costly improvements of the
year wcro tho Keith theatre. and tho
Prebyterian church, tho latter still in
courao of construction. Tho new
theatre is ono of the most attractive
and best arranged of any of its sizo in
the west, and with a seating capacity
of G50 it well fills tho ncods of North
Platte. Tho Presbyterian church, with
its pressed brick walls, and exterior
designs, will make, when completed,
most attractive Btructuro.
Below is appended tho improvements

Why do you insure your house, and furniture, and
stable, against fire?
Because if you don't, and they burn up, the 1onss
will fall on you.
Why do you neglect to insure your life?
Because if you die and you will die some day
the loss will not fall on you but on somebody else
your wife or daughter, or aged mother, or invalid sister
