held, thus giving the nominee an
opportunity to make a thorough
canvass.
This congressional district

received two years ago, and it is
the belief among republicans
that if a strong man is nominated
by the convention he will surely
be elected. This condition lias

western part of the state and
gaining a state reputation as a
lawyer. In the fall of 18'J5 he
received the republican nomina
tion for judge of the Thirteenth
judicial district, his opponent
being Judge Neville, who was
then it candidate for re-election
to that position. Judge Grimes
overcame Neville's former m;t'
jority of nearly nuu ami was
elected by a majority of 132. So
well and impartially did Judge
Grimes fill the position of judge,
