ted suicide Wednesday night by

lowing morning. Mrs. Hassard
was fifty-one years of age, and
being a sufferer from nervousness
it ia presumed she took her life
during one of these periods of great
mental depression.

Tobias Castor of Lincoln, one of
the best known politicians in the
state, died suddenly yesterday
morning about 7:45, on the Bur
Hngton passenger train, bound for
Omaha. Mr. Castor was apparently
in his usual health when he
boarded the train at Lincoln, With
him were Sheriff Branson of Lan
caster county and Judge Tibbetts
of Lincoln. Just before the train
reached Havelock, Mr. Castor
gasped for breath and collapsed in

O. T. Cartrigtit, a clerk at army
headquarters, received a unique let

uary 1 ot this year as a New Year's
greeting, by 10. W. Griffith, a clerk
in the adjutant general's office at
Manila, and since that time it has
been traveling continually. One
estimate places the number of miles
it-has covered at 500,000. A hund
