The mortgage indebtedness re cord at the county clerk's office shows the following for the month of December: Farm mortgages filed S12.275, satisfied $11,134. Town and city mortgages filed 55, 700, satisfied 87,025. Chattel mort gages filed 44,293.81, satisfied 34, 311.55. We are intormcd by Dr. Seymour that by reason of a recent rulinir of the passenger departments of the yartous roads, it will be impossible for him to bring his private car to this city as he had expected, as it seems the railroad authorities object to his using railroad grounds for his business. His car is very val uable, besides containing many thousand dollaru worth of valuable instruments, and in towna of this size there is great danger in switch ing, and as the doctor recently sustained a loss on one of the rail roadsthey retuse to insure the car and instruments against accidents consequently he will use his car only on long journeys and in large cities. George Rengler, charged with burglarizing Chas. Ell's residence, was tried in court Friday and after being out less than a half hour the jury returned a verdict of guilty as charged. The colored man charged with attempting to rob a roomer at the Nebraska Houfc two or three weeks ago, had his trial Saturday and was acquitted. The evidence against him was very weak. The case of the State against Gusmeyer, charged with being im plicated in theft of. money from the Weir boys in the west part of the county, was called in court Satur day afternoon. The evidence was gotten in that day and yesterday morning the pleadings were made and the case given to the jury, who after being out a number of hours arrived at a verdict of acquittal, much to the surprise of a majority of the people who heard the evi dence. Gusmeyer is being held in jail today and tonight will be taken to Alliance by Sheriff Sweeney, where he will be tried on the charge of horse s'caling. The case ot D. M. Leypoldt against Lincoln county was called in the court room just after dinner yesterday. Leypoldt was assessor in Nichols -precinct last year and when he presented his bill to the commissioners they cut the amount twenty dollars. Leypoldt refused to accept the warrant for the re duced amount and sued the county for the lull amount. The trial was by .jury and a verdict for the full amount was rendered. The Gusmeyer trial completed the criminal cases on the docket and the Ilaskell-Reed case is now on. This trial will probably be long drawn out. Tor Sale.
