We learn that samples of sugar
beets growh at Hershey this season
have been tested by the chemist
of the Grand Island factory and
pronounced the richest and purest
of any of the 250 samples sent in
from different parts of the state,
This should be an incentive for the
beet raisers in that section to in
crease their acreage next year.

Wiloox Department Store,
Old1 Piece ot Money,
The Omaha Bee of Wednesday
published an item relative to a
sixty dollar bill hi United States
ciirrency owned by Otto Ftechtt of
Idaho, rind that the bill was sup
posed to be the only one in exist
ence. The item wds seen by Mrs.
S. 12. Douglass pf this city,, aiid
she remembered that she had
among the relics left by' licr late
husband a similar bill. She
looked it up rind found that it cor
respdnded with the blllspdkcn 6f hi
the Bee, and she brought It to this
office yesterday that we might Bee
it. Mrs. Douglas says her Iiub
band obtained It from his father
and that it had ' been in the Doug
las family for many years,,
It was issued at the first session
of the continental congress in 178
and carries with' it nil the crudity
of that age. It is a peculiar, look
ing document being a piece Of
greenish paper of much the same
inaterial as the present' paper
money, except' that it is heavier.
In shape It is almost square, with
dimensions ttfbout four by three",
and a half inches.
fOn one side of the bill is written
receipt, which is as follows;
Tins bill entitles the bearer to
sixty Spanish milled dollars .for
value rcceiyed hi gold or Bilver,
according to a' resolution passed by
conirress at Philadelphia, Septem
beT26, 1778."
On the back of the bill is drawn
a bow with a set arrow. Along the
margin the value of t,he bill is again
printed rind at one side the words,
Printed, Hall & SelerB, 1778."
I tlie bottom of the face is the
signature of I. Walter, who was
probably connected wjth the trea
sury department at' that time.
The treasury department in 1893
announced that the bill, owned by
the Idaho man was legal and worth
Its' face, hence the bjll owned by
by Mrs.. Douglas is also legal. The
Idaho man is said to have refused
one .thousand dollars for his bill,
but MrB. Douglas says she will
part with the one she has if offered
that amount.
