II. B. HimiEi.y, Ira L. HAuk,
Secretary, Chairman.
From the east comes the story
that Senator Allen will be nomin
ated for president by the populist
national convention at Sioux Falls.
The rumor is causing a little un
easiness among those populists
who have tied up with Bryan.
Of the ten delegates selected by
Governor Poypter to attend the
TransmiBsissippi congress at
Houston, Texas, two are republi
cans and the remainder fusioniou
ists. ' This shows to what extreme
Poynter carries his rank partisan
ship.
A truk populist will visit Lin
coin county next week and spend a
few days reorganizing the populist
reform parly, which has become
Badly demoralized by contact with
democracy. The organizer has
wide field, in which to woik, but the
result of the Harvest is conjectural.
The O'Neill Frontier, published
at the home of Judge Kinkade,
Bays: "It seems to be quite thor
oujhly understood that Judge Kin-
kaid, who made such a Bplendid
showing in.4thc race last year, will
again be nominated." Up to this
nine run nam is me ouiy name we
have noticed in connection with
the republican nomination for con
gressman, and it is quite probable
that the Frontier speaks by the
card.
The Nebraska delegation to the
democratic national convention wil
put on more style than any other
delegation which attends. Well
they can afford it. Since McKtnlcy
prosperity firBt struck NcbraBk
two or. three years ago the detrio
crats have had money to burn. Du
Ing these prosperous times the
worshippers of Bryan recklessly
spend a hundred dollars to where
they spent vH fiver under the last
democratic udministratidu.
The agricultural products of th
United States last year were worth
to the farmers one and one-half
billion dollars more than the outp
of either of the years 1895 or 18
The live stock alone is today worth
seven hundred million dollars more
than during the lam year of Clev
land's administration. And yet In
the face of these statistics, which
were compiled by a non-political
agricultural journal, thousands
farmers are working to secure the
overthrow ot the political party
which is responsible for thl
wondertul increase. Verily there
arc strange ptefpte in this old world.
TliKRB is no valid reason why
the republican city ticket should
not receive the full support of every
republican,
If the Era refreshes its memory
a little it will remember that it was
sympathy" which elected a nom
inee on the citizen's ticket one year
ago, and that it aB&islcd in herald-
ng the physical condition of the
man.
With II. S. White in the mayor's
chair the floating indebtedness of
the city will be wiped out within
the next twelve months. His elec
tion means a continuation of the
present business-like administra
tion. -
Tub people of the First ward arc
entitled to additional rcprcscntntion
on the school board. At present
they have but one member, when
n all fairness they should have
two, Thcv should cast their votes
solidly for J. E. Weeks, and thus
secure the election of another mem
ber from that ward.
Those opposing the election of
the republican city ticket arc work-
ng quietly but earnestly to secure
its defeat. They have no words of
severe condemnation lor the repub-
icau nominees, but they appeal for
the votes of republicans on the
gronnd that theirs is a non-partisan
ticket. This is not true. Every
nominee who is on the ticket by
petition is a democrat or a populist.
Another large trust is being
formed in free trade England. This

with a capitalization of $50,000,000
to $60,000,000. It will be know as
the Lancashire Bleachers' Associa-
ion, Limited, and the Loudon
Daily Mail says that its object is to
prevent price-cutting and allowing
discounts to buyers. Is the pro
tective tariff of the United States
to be held responsible for the par
entage ol this latest British
trust?
Eastehn democratic papers
severely criticise the Nebraska
democratic platform but insist that
Brvan had nothing to do with it.
This apology for Bryan is absurd,
for he came all the way from Texas
to attend the convention, and it it.
no secret that he dictated the plat
form as adopted. Bryan knew that
the public would accept the plat
form as his own, and therefore
dictated what the principal planks
should b6. Those who have read
the platform and also the speeches
of Mr. Bryan can readily recognize
the similarity.
