Several individuals who appar
ently never have a good word to
say for anybody or anything, have
started the report that the object
of the Board ot Education m
placing the successful bidder for
the new school building under a
fittv thousand dollar bond was to
frighten off home bidders. Such
a claim is absolutely absurd. The
state law provides that the bond
given by a contractor for public
buildings shall be double the
amount ot the contract price
hence the Board could not do
otherwise than place the bond at
the sum named. If the successful
bidder is a North Platte man we
opine that he can easily secure time
the necessary bond.

Chicago Sunday was, in the early
frontier days, one of the "freight

which he was a member owning

Cody became one of his most
trusted pony express riders be-

Upon the completion of the Union
Pacific railroad the freighting bus-
ness was brought to a close and
the two men parted company.
After many years of separation
the two men chanced to meet in
Denver in 1892. Majors was in
destitute circumstances, while
Cody had money to ''burn." The
atter gave his old employer all as
sistance ueceBsary, and from that
time until Majors death the two
had been in constant commuuica
