W. T. Wilcox entertained the
legal bar of the city and a few
others at a dinner party Wednesday
evening' at his home, which proved
an event that will not readily be
effaced from the memory of those
present. The dinner was in the
nature of ratification of the election
of Judge II. M. Grimes, and that
gentleman was the guest of honor.
Plates were laid for eighteen, and
as the guests were seated pink and
white carnations were found at
each plate. The pieces dc rcsis
tence were two immense turkeys,
one at each end of the table, in the
dissection of which the host was
assisted by Judge Iloaglaud. The
menu was varied, excellently pre
pared and nicely served, the whole
reflecting much credit upon the
lady of the house. As the dinner
progressed it was demonstrated that
lawyers arc possessed of excellent
appetites, and that the wile of each
one present can easily reach his
heart by giyiug him plenty good
food.
Following the dinner two hours
were spent in smoking, spinning
yams aud relating varied exper
lenccs, and those two hours were
just as pleasant as the hour aud a
half spent around the board. At
10:30 the guests departed thanking
the host and his lady for the pleas
ures of the evening.
Those present were: Messrs
Grimes, Hinman, Patterson, J. S.
and W. V. Hoaglaud, Davis, Deeler,
Muldoon, Halligan, Ridgely,
French, Evans, Ray, Elder, Cary,
Scharmann and Bare.
A Banquet to Sister Antoinette.
oisier Antoinette, a lortner in-
structress.in the Navtty School in
this city, but now of Concordia,
Kansas, spent a few day in town
this week, and on the eve of her
departure for home was tendered
a banquet by the class of 1895, and
of which she was a tutor. The
banquet was held at the convent
Tuesday evening and proved a
most pleasing event to Sister
Antoinette, as wen as to tlie mem
bers of the class Misses Nellie
Austih, Annie Rebhausen, Jennie
Frazier, Kate McGlonc, Maggie
Kellv and Mamie O'Hare. The
trials and vexations as well as the
joys and pleasures of the school
days of the class were rehearsed
aud responses were made to
toasts. A very nicely prepared
spread added to the enjoyment
of the evening. In addition to the
honored guest and the members of
the class there were present at
the banquet Father Haley and
the sisters of the local parochial
school.
Woary of Marital Ties.
That marriage is, in Bonie in
stances, a failure is demonstrated
by the fact that at the term of dis
trict court next week six petitions
for divorce will be heard by the
presiding judge. The married
couples who desire to have the
marital cord cut asunder by judic
ial action are as follows, the first
named being the plantiff in the
respective suits: -Elizabeth. Van-
Sickle aud Lorenzo VanSicklc;
George Wagner and Laura Wag
ner; Lena-Miller and Dudley Miller;
Sarah E. Loan and Patrick Loan:
Dora A. Mangold and Harry W.
Mangold; Thomas German and
Blanche German.
This is the largest number of
divorce cases that has ever been
docketed for one term of court in
this county. Attorneys believe
that a decree will be granted in
each of the above cases.
