She was a young woman of exemplary character and by her kindness arid goodness won a large circle of friends. Identifying herself earlv in life with the Enisconal church. she took a great interest iu church' work, and especially, the Sunday school. Commis sioner Hermann of the general laud office has also indicated to the of ficers, of the land office at North I Platte, Messrs. Bacon and French, that on their showing a permanent clerkship will be granted the North Platte office. According to the re port of Receiver Bacon the office 1b one of the busiest in Nebraska; that they have 17(000 homestead entries to take care of in addition to some 1,500 reservoir site entries and that the office has upward of 100 contests pending, which require the most careful attention. Clerk ships in the land office arc under the civil service and the commisuioui will be called upon for a list of cligibles, Should it transpire that there is not an eligible register, Mr. Prosser will be designated temporarily until he has had an opportunity to take the examina tion provided by the Civil Service commission.
