Painters began work yesterday on the Episcopal church. The rectory will also be repainted. Mrs. Robert La Fountaiue. of Kearney, was the guest of Mrs. R. R. Hine tor a day or two this week. Business men at Hershey are considering a proposition for the publishing of. a newspaper there. . Sheldon Early, of Kearney, en route to Boise City, Idalio, is visit ing1 acquaintances in town to-day. No service in the evening". Owing to the lack of time, it has been found impossible for the wheel club to have its parade this evening. Misses Blanchard and Wright, who will sing at the minstrel enter tainment this evening-, came in from Sidney last night. The Tribune has received an order for wedding cards from well we are not at liberty to divulge the name until the next issue. Matters relative to the proposed Harrington & Tobin block on east Sixth street have so far progressed as to assure the erection of the building-. Waters, an employe of the Daily Telegraph, ar rived from Grand Island last night. Mr. and Mrs. Waters will reside on west Sixth street. Those who have attended the re hearsals of Prof. Garlichs' oches tra affirm that the concert to be given by that organization on Fri day, evening of next week will be an exceptional fine one. Surveyor Meyer and Commis sioner Hardin went to the east part of the county yesterday to in: quire into some disputed road ways. Commissioner Thomson was sick and could not accompany them. Commissioner Hill wrote the county plerk that he would be on hand'Monday but he has failed to show up. He is prgbably too busy with work on his farm to attend the meetings of the commissioners. It is understood that Colonel Cody has secured satisfactory rates for the transportation of the Wild West show from Omaha to North Platte, and that the show will positively give an exhibition in this "city during the irrigation tair. The bicycle track at the fair grounds is practically completed, the only work remaining being the rolling of the cinders. This will be done immediately after the next heavy ram. The wheelmen are more than pleased with the track The initial ball game of the season was played Wednesday afternoon between the Y. M. C. A. team and a picked nine. The for mer won by a score of thirty-four to seventeen. The pitchers faced a strong wind, which accounts for many runs made. The services at the Church of Our Saviour on Sunday evening will be under the auspices of the Daughters of the King and the Brotherhood of St Andrew, the Rector having his regular monthly service at thejiorth side chapel. The services as arranged for the church will be ot unusual interest. The board of directors of the yesterday afternoon and passed the. following resolution: "Resolved, That wetura over tke matter of improvement of fair grounds to the Nebraska Irrigation Fair Associa tion, and. that tne .5iwu appropri ated by Lincoln county shall be applied in payment for material as fast as required. The Lincoln county agricultural association to own the improvements made, but not liable for any expense in con nection therewith over and above the thousand dollars alre'Sdy subscribed." Preparations for the Nebraska Irrigation Fair will be pushed rapidly from this time forward. At the meeting of the board of man agers in tins city next week a in this thorough discussion of the general details of the fair will be had, and working plans outlined. It is thought arrangements for the erec tion of the main exhibition hall will commence shortly after this meet ing of the board ot managers. The fair means a big thing for North Platte, Lincoln county and "Western Nebraska, and every North Platte citizen should do all in his power to make it a success. S. by the members of the local chapter, was one of the most elaborate affairs ot the kind ever given in North Platte. The rooms of the house were pro fusely decorated with flowers and potted plants, making a very hand some showing. The luncheon, served in courses, was varied and very complete in every detail. Two hours were spent at the tables, and very enjoyable were the hours thus employed. Each guest "was pre sented with a carnation. Many compliments were paid the members of the reception committee for the very able manner in which they handled the affair. The supreme court in a recent case held that cities are liable ior damages by reason of accidents en suing from defective sidewalks. In nrder to avoid the payment of suchi - - A. damages, it will be well for the city council to investigate certain walks in town which are not only defective but dangerous. " If prop erty owners would look after their walks a. little more diligently and nail down a board when it becomes loose, instead of allowing it to re main unnailed until some fellow eventually carries it home for fuel, they would not only save money but earn the thanks of pedestrians. Band Concerts. The Gordon cornet band will give its initial street concert . on Satur day evening of next week, and con tinue them during the summer months the weather permitting. The band has devoted much time during the past winter to practice and the members assure us that the music this summer will be supe rior to any rendered in the past. As the members of the band Uave been at considerable expense in purchasing sheet music, the cost of which has come out of their own pockets, it is the intention to ask business men and others to contrib ute such , amounts as they see fit to partly reimburse the members tor this outtag-eand to meet the ex penses of future purchases of this kind.
