Fort were in attendance at the meeting; of the state board of agriculture in Omaha to-day. Mr. "Doolittle is a member of the board and Mr. Fort is there in the interest of the irrigation movement. We under stand that the State Irrigation As sociation propose to exhibit the workings of the different irrigation systems at the next meeting of the fair in Omaha. P. hall last evening was at tended by an audience that filled nearly every seat. Part of the pro gramme was excellently rendered, especially the instrumental num bers by Messrs. Hope, Garlichs, Olds, Morrell, Barber and the Y. M. C. A. fflee club. The instru ments of the latter consisted of two banlos, a guitar and three harmon icas, and the boys were recalled on both numbers. The net receipts .were about $25. The Bryant & Stratton busi ness college, of this city, will with in the next two weeks, issue eigh teen diplomas to pupils who have been attending the school. The courses in which these pupils grad uate are telegraphy, short-hand and book, keeping. This is an excel lent record for the school, an is evi dence that the college Is well man aged. Carter, Nellie Ionergan, John Keliher, V. E. Marsh, Anthony Stolle, E. C. Wolf, J. W. Dwyer, Fannie VonGoetz. For some reason or other more alkali is visible on the ground this spring than tor years. District court convened Monday morning with Judge Sinclair, ot Kearney, presiding. The first bus iness was a decision of the court on the injunction case of Paxton & Hershey against the Farmers and Merchants' ditch, wherein the plain tiffs sought to restrain the defend ant from building its ditch on the ground that the plaintiffs' ditch was sufficient to supply the terri tory sought to be watered by the ditch of the defendant. The evi dence in the case had been sub mitted at the February term of court, and since that time the court had carefully considered the case, and as a result announced a dis solution of the injunction as his decision. The case will be taken to the supreme court, and the court ordered that the plaintiffs give a supersedeas bond in the sum of $3,000. Just how long the appeal to the supreme court will delay matters depends upon the prompt ness with which the plaintiffs act. Mr. Ransom, the plaintiffs' attor ney, declares that he is anxious that the case come up for hearing at the earliest possible date. If this is true, the matter will be finally settled, one way or the other, within ninety days. The decision in the district court is a victory for the -Farmers and Merchants' ditch, and there are many who believe the supreme court will not reverse the decision of the lower court. Miss Alice Barraclough, who had been visiting the family of her brother, Fred Barraclough, for sev eral months, left Saturday for Lar amie, Wyo. J. S. Haynes, fprmerly of Bird wood precinct, but who has been spending the past couple of years in Butler county, returned the latter part of the week and will farm part of the Ritner tract of land. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Shaffer started Sunday night for Los Angeles, Cal., where they will reside per manently. The best wishes of a large circle of acquaintances ac company them to thir new home. Four sections of train No. 19 were sent over the Third district Saturday. A derrick to be used in raising ice has been erected at the ice house and greatly facilitates the handling of the blocks. Joe Todd expects to leave the latter part ot the week for Denver, where he will recreate ,for a couple of weeks. C. A. Weir has- been elected by the local lodge as delegate to the B. of R. T. convention, to be held at Galesburg next month. A special Missouri Pacific train having on board a number of the higher officials of that road, was side-tracked at this station Satur day night. Several refrigerator cars contain ing potatoes were broken into at Ogalalla the latter part of the week, but as the cars were in tran sit the thieves did not have time to gobble any large qaantities of the tubers. Active members at present ninety. The chief recommended the purchase of 250 feet of hose and two extinguishers.
