Attorney, subject to the ratification
of the Republican county conven
tion. W. T. Wilcox.
As omission was made last week
in the call for the county conven
tion. The call will be found to-day
correctly printed at the head of this
column.
Betting at the pool rooms in
the city of New York is 6 to 5 in
favor of Harrison. The day after
the Chicago convention the voting
was 2 to 1 in favor of Cleveland.

Hon. Patrick Egan feels that the
success of the republican nationa
ticKet is inevitable, ne has naa
unusual opportunities for studying
the feelings of the. Irish-American
voters, and finds that large numbers
are coming over to the support of
Harrison. There are two reasons
for the wholesale conversion of the
Celts. . The principle of protection
finds much favor among them,
partially, perhaps, because no Irish
man wishes to aid by his vote the
people who crushed out the indus
tries of the Emerald isle by adverse
legislation in the past. Again, Mr.
Egan says that the young'voters of
to-day are disregarding their race
traditions. They are not willing to
continue voting the democratic
ticket simply because .the party op
posed the xnownothmgs long before
they were born. They are tired of
the bossism that has presumed to
mark out their paths in politics, and
in the future will reserves the right
to think and act for themselves. A
little independent thinking lands
the vote in the republican partv,
and enough changes of .this kind
willl occur to have quite an in
fluence in the doubtful states.

It is more than likely that there
will be only one name presented to
the county convention to-day for
the office of County Attornev that
of W. T. Wilcox. Mr. Wilcox is a
young man thoroughly read in the
law, of sound judgment and quick
perceptive faculties. He will make
& good prosecutor and an impartial
and careiui aaviser.
THE U. 8. COURT BILL PASSED.
Omaha, Lincoln, Hastings and Norfolk

circuit courts at additional points in
Nebraska was reported from the
conference committee and passed on
Monday. The house receded from
its disagreement to the senate
amendment striking out Kearney,
and the bill, as it will become a law,
will provide that terms of the courts
shall be held at Omaha, Lincoln,
Norfolk and Hastings. The Ne
braska delegation in congress, as well
as the citizens directly interested in
Kearney and North Platte, made
all the efforts possible to have these
cities named in the bill.
A Washington dispatch says: It
required a great deal of effort to
convince the senate that Norfolk
and Hastings should be added to
Omaha and Lincoln for terms of
the courts. Judge 'Dundy did a
great deal towards prejudicing the
senate committee on judiciary
against the proposition and some
members of the senate committee
referred to the application of the
Nebraiskans for an increase of terms
as "putting the court on wheels."
It required a good deal of effort,
also, to convince the house commit
tee on judiciary that it was neces-
saryro Ave ine tnree additional
places which the bill mentioned as
it , passed the house. Messrs.
Roclgers, of Arkansas, and Hender
son, of North Carolina, the con
ferees on on the part of the house
said to-day that it became evident
very soon after the conference com
mittee met that the gentlemen act
ing for the senate were unyielding
via that it would be a simple waste
of time for the house to try to con
vince the senate that it was neces
sary to reinstate Kearney in the
bill, and so the house conferees yield
ed and the senate had its way.
Representative Crane is a gentle
man not in the habit of writing to
his friends telling them to go to
work and get him an invitation to
address their people at the county
fair on the political rottenness of
the day, but the Journal suggests
that if any farming community
wants some bottom facts on politi
cal rottenness thev can secure in
him a pretty intefigent farmer, who
knows his business and can make
them a very interesting speech oh
