Pi' f-, -. I61 iriVune. STEVENS& BABE, Editors akd Props, SATURDAY, JULY 28. 1888. REPUBLICAN TICKET. For President, BENJAMIN HABRISON, of Indiana. For Vice-President, LEVI P. MORTON, of New York. For Member of Congress, Third Dist.. GEO. W. E. DOBSEY. SENATORIAL CANDIDATES. The selection of a senator to rep resent the 30th senatorial district in the legislature this winter has practically been assigned to Lin coln county. .We have two candi dates for the honor, but the name of only one will be presented to the convention called to make the nomination. Both are excellent men; both are men of ability, high integrity and vitally interested in the growth, development and pros perity of the large territory com prising thisilistrict, with a popula tion of over 75,000. -John I. Nesbitt is tne rising vouncr' lawver of West Nebraska. o 1 .A clear andtiuick thinker, an elo quent speaker and ready debater, a student of law and its application to civil eovernnient. few men are bitter qualified to fill the high posi tion to which he aspires. Through out the district he is well known, and attracted state reputation by the admirable manner he presided over the deliberations of the last Republican state convention. Three times he has been almost unanimously elected to office in this county, for two years as Supt. of Schools and he is now serving his second term as County Attor ney. Appointed chairman of the Republican county committee a year ago, his great executive ability was immediately demonstrated by the manner he conducted the-cam paign and unified the party, which had before been divided into fac tions on local issues. Thomas U. ratterson is one or the oldest residents of Lincoln county. Coming here a mere boy when the countrv was new, he has 1 ' grown with its growth and strength ened with its strength. For twelve years he was postmaster in this citv. Alwavs anions the' firs ml w to suggest an improvement, scarce ly an enterprise of importance ihaucrurated but he is among its most energetic promoters. Full of life, industrious, quick to see the needs of the public, he would most ablv represent the people in the w A. senate. Between these two men The TRD3UNE will express no choice Both will go before the Republican electors of this county at the pri mary election for endorsement The one who receives the majority of the county convention will be the nominee of the party for sena tor, and the successful candidate will receive the hearty support of him who is defeated. A letter from H. O. Smith, of Plum Greek, chairman of the Re publican senatorial central commit tee, says he has called a meeting of the committee, at North Platte, August 4th, at two p. m. A. H. Church, we believe, is the member irom cdis county. The headquarters of the Republi- can .national uommittee is vi v inn Avenue, New York. Another convert to Harrison and protection to American indust- nes. Hugh T. Crockett, a life long Democrat of this city, has announc ed his intention to vote for Harrison and donned the Republican badge. In a circular letter Secretary r urnas lntorms us tnat tms year the State Fair will be held at Lin coln Sept. J7th to. 14th; that re sponees and- applications for 'ac commodations are far in advance of any preceding year up date; that more live stock stalls, pens and space for agricultural products have been engaged; more inquiries made and correspondence generally doubled, indicating an increased in terest in the fair. As the season is propitious for good crops all over Nebraska and contiguous territory, it is likely the State Fair of 1888 will be the grandest exhibition that has been given under the auspices of the society. William H. Grace, ex-Mavor of New York City, and one of the best known and most respected demo crats in the, whole 'state, has an nounced himself as a supporter of honesty and Harrison. Here is one of his reasons as given .by himself: "I have studied the tariff question for twenty-five grears, and I cannot but support the convictions that I have arrived at after so much study. I cannot support free trade, which has been tha cause of every great panic since 1813. The democratic policy now is to claim that the party is not for free trade, but for freer trade. The claim, is hypocritical. Its platform is but a string of words well put tocrether, and intended to oeceire we pcupie. ; T. J. Allison, i assessing Fair- Kalsomiuing &c.
