The most painful cases of rheumatism may be
relieved by a few applications of Chamberlain's
Fain Balm; its continued use will cure any case
no matter of how long standing. The record of
this pain relieving medicine is wonderful. It is
equally beneficial for lame back, pain inside,
shoulder lameness, and in all painful affections
requiring an external remedy. A trial will con
vince any person that the above statement is cor
rect. Chamberlain's Pain Balm is sold by F. H.
Longley.
Philadelphia aldermen differ from
the New variety. Instead of lining
their own pockets they enrich the
city coffers by charging an elevated
railway company $500,000 for a
franchise, besides a tax of 10,000
for each mile constructed and 2 per
cent of the annual gross receipts.
A new political party has been
organized in California. It bears
the somewhat suggestive name
the American party. Among the
features of the platform is a plank
demanding the repeal of all laws
permitting and encouraging immi
gration, so that shiftless criminal
and other undesirable elasses of for
eigners may be excluded.
BEFORE YOU START on n journey, call and
get a bottle of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and
Diarrhoea Remedy as a safeguard against an at
attack of bowel complaint. Many prudent and
careful persons never travel without it. Hun
dreds of traveling men are never without a bottle
in their grip. Many lives and much suffering has
been saved ly its timely use. No one can attord
to travel without a bottle of this pleasant, safe
and reliable preparation. F. H. Longley. drug

had before winning his wife he

and every species of inventions and
stories were got up against me. It
didn't make any difference. I cap

STARTLING RUT TRUE.
Wilis Poist, Tevas, Dec. 1, 1885.
After suffering for more than three
years with disease of the throat and lungs,
1 got se low last spring 1 was entirely un
able to do anything, and my cough was so
bad I scarcely slept any at night. My
druggist, Mr. H. F. Goodnight, sent me a
trial bottle of Dr. Bosanko's Cough and
Lung Syrup. I found relief, and after
using six $1 bottles I was entirely cured.

A correspondent of the New York
Herald: "Edward McGlynn will
find to his sorrow that the mob, lay
and clerical, on whom he has relied
will desert him. That inscrutable
magnet which operates so silently
and imperceptibly in the Catholic
heart that it not only enchains and
couquers, but absolutely stupefies,
will gradually draw his rampant
followers from beneath his helpless
arm and leave him deserted and
alone."
A "kicker is a kicker." He kicks
at what others do, and all they don't
do; he kicks at what he tries to do
himself and what he fails to do.
He kicks himself into heaven and
then kicks because he didn't go to
hades. He's got the same disposi
tion as a scrub mule, and is worth
about as much to society. Sensible
people laugh as he strains himself
in trying to injure others. You'll
find these mental curiosities in
every community. Kick the
"kicker." Schuyler Sun.

The age of kings is over. It
deepened into its - twilight when
George Washington took the sword
of Lord Cornwallis on the field of
Yorktown. This twilight of the
kings has been growing denser ever
since. The nineteenth century will
probably be their last. When the
twentieth century rounds up to its
close all the governments of the
world will be republics in reality.
The world will hate the name of
king with the old Roman hatred.

A woman was found riding on a
freight west of Laramie recently
perched just over the coupler and
hanging on to the brake-rod. She
said she was going to Washington
Territory, but had no money; but
she had managed to beat her way
more comfortably further east.
When found she was nearly dead
with fatigue and exposure to the
fierce storm. A generous cowboy
paid her way to Rawlins, and gave
her money for food.

Canada is increasing her militia
and her mounted police force and
now the question is whom does
Canada want to fight, or against
whom does it propose to protect it
self? The Canadian government
is so involved in debt that it would
seem to be wise policy for it to re

Southern industrial development
is going on at a great rate, if the
figures that are given from time to
time are at all reliable. It was
thought a great thing when 863,
000,000 of capital was invested in
that section during the first half of
1886, but for the same period of
this year the investment has been
161,000,000. or two and a half
times as much. The "new soutli"

Bright Eyes, the eloquent Indian
woman who some years ago deliv
ered in Chicago a series of stirring
addresses in behalf of the exiled
Ponca Indians, is making a sensa
tion in Eastern cities, where she
has been speaking to crowded
houses. Her subject is the general
Indian question, its needs and its
mistakes. She claims the great de
mand is for a supreme court of
judges who shall have jurisdiction
of all Indian cases; that red men,
should hold their land m severalty,
and be allowed the rights of citizen
ship. Bright Eves some years ago
married Mr. T."H. Tibbets. She
has recently received pressing invi
tations to visit England. She would
as a civilized, cultivated Indian lady
be in marked contract to the sav
ages now representing the Indian
in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show.
The friends of the Indian across
the water could do well to secure
the services of Bright Eyes, as she
is a good illustration of what civili
zation and education can do for the
race. Chicago Inter Ocean.

W. H. Anderson of Bockton has
in his possession one of the most
valuable relies of the rebellion in
this county and perhaps in the state.
It is nothing less than the banner
that was captured by Mr. A. at
Columbia, S. C. in 1865. It is the
banner of the Brooks Guards of
Charleston, S. C, and bears date
May 12, 1861. It is about 45
inches square, made of blue silk
double and embroidered with solid
fringe and a palmetto tree and
eleven stars on the back. It has
also in gold letters, "In God is our
trust." Mr. A. was among the first
of the Federal army that entered
Columbia, S. C, and secured posses
sion of the two banners, the other
of which is in the possession of
Col. S. D. Nichols, of Panora,
Guthrie county, Iowa, who com
manded the Fourth Iowa at that
time. The flag is of the best of
blue silk and is in a good state of
preservation. This flag is said to
have been made by the ladies of
Charleston, S. C, and presented by
them to the Guards, who were
named in honor of the infamous
Preston Brooks. Beaver City

Piles.
Piles are frequently preceded by a
sense of weight in the back, loins and
lower part of the abdomen, causing the.
patient to suppose he has some affection
of the kidneys or neighboring organs. At
times, symptoms of indigestion are
present, flatulency, uneasiness of the
stomach, etc. A moisture like perspira
tion, producing a very disagreeable
itching, after getting warm, is a common
attendant. Blind, bleeding and itching
piles yield at once to the application of
Dr. Bosanko's Pile Bemedy, which acts
directly upon the parts affected, absorbing
the tumors, allaying the intense itching,
and affecting a permanent cure. Price
fifty cents. Address the Dr. Bosanko
