Rye has improved some since the
rains of the hitter part of May but. can
not recover fully from the previous
lamapc. The condition of t3 per cent
forecasts l,93t,000 bushels. Last
year's crop was 1,714,000 bushels.
All hay conditions i.s ss per cent
compared to St) per cent last year. The
lack of moisture checked the growth
if wild hay and also tame hay, par
ticularly in north central ami north
ern counties. Alfalfa yields vary but
are about the averape.
All fruit crops are very promising.
The condition of apples is f0 per cent;
pears, 89 per cent; blackberries and
raspberries 91 per cent and peaches
98 per cent. The set of fruit of part
of the trees is extra heavy.
The number of bearing fruit trees
has been reduced very heavily during
the past decade. In 1920 there were
1.4C9.998 bearing fruit trees as com
pared to 5,061,984 trees in 1910. Fun
tcous diseases, insects, drouth, severe
winters and lack of care are respon
sible for heavy losses. A comparison
of the present number of fruit trees
with the number ten years ago is as
follows: apples, 32 per cent; peaches,
v0 per cent; pears, 61 per cent; plums,
24 per cent; cherries, 58 per cent;
Crape vines, 35 per cent; acreage of
all small fruits, 81 per cent.
The condition of sugar beets i.s 88
per cent. High winds did some dam
age to the crop. The acrerga is less
than it was last year. The condition
of minor crops are as follows: cab
bage, 9(1 per cent; onions, 91 per cent:
beans, 95 per cent; watermelons; 90
per cent; muskmelons and cantaloupes,
8S per cent.
Estimates of important crops for
the United States "are as follows: Win
ter wheat, 007,333.000 bushe's and
587,032,000 bushels last year. Spring
wheat, 18,039,000 acres and 247,175,000
bushels as compared to 19,70(i.00fl
acres and 207,801,000 bushels last
year. Oats, 41,822,000 acres and 1,
304,004,000 bushels as compared to, 44.
