transporting lio,uor. The defendant
has announced that he will a il. The
appeal bond was set at $275. The evi
dence in the case brought out the fact
that the liquor in question was found
wrapped, in a coat in the Ford auto
mobile of one Sanford Saling, abo of
Hemingford. Suling could not be
found, ami the car in which the liquor
wa found was confiscated at the order I
of the court. Harry Gantz, attorney for'
the defendant, maintained that Lot-
speich could not be guilty of trans
porting liquor as he was merely a pas- 1
senger in the car. The court, however,!
ru ed that the evidence brought out
that Lotsjeich knew of the presence
of the liquor and was therefore equally
guilty.

It costs a community more to be dirty than to keep
clean. Consider the toll of disease, fire and depreciation,
through filth, disorder and neglect. For one example:
Dust and grime are said to be responsible for more than
50 per cent of the wear and tear on clothing and house
furnishings.
Every housewife realizes that dirty streets and yards
in her community are a real burden on her time and purse.
The dust from the streets finds lodgment in her curtains,
draperies and cat pets. It makes her housekeeping an
endless burden. And so with the merchants and all other
classes. ' '
No home owner would attempt to clean up the entire
community, but when a large number work together in a
concei ted effort to clean up, the result is apparent to all of
them. And so the movement started in Alliance for a
Clean-Up and Faint-Up campaign by the Chamber of Com
merce to begin with the week of April 21th, has met with
a hearty response.
The splendid community spirit which has been de
veloped in the 7,000 cities and towns has practically re
made many communities. Streets are repaired, parks are
beautified ramshackle fire traps are razed. Millions of
homes and public buildings have been repaired, repainted
and restored to beauty and usefulness.
These are some of the fruits of community co-operation.
The complete history of the Clean-Up and Paint-Up
campaign will never be written, but it is sufficient to say
that no such practical, popular and successful co-operative
movement for community welfare and betterment ever
has been undertaken. The most commendable and signifi
cant thing about it is that these great bodies of people
give their services and energy to this work without any
pay and solely for the public service.
In every city, including Alliance, there is a multitude
of men and women who have long wished for a real "City
Lieautiful." They are public spirited citizens whose vision
extends far beyond the confines of their own homes. Their
increased enjoyment of living and their pride in their city
and its general welfare are their reward.
