Alliance Woman
Makes Room for
Soldier's W(fe
The appeal published in Tuesday's
Herald from a Chadron woman, whose
ex-soldier husband is now in St. Jo
seph's hospital, for a place where she
and her four-months-old baby could
find a home and an opportunity to
earn their keep during the time the
husband and father is confined to the
hospital, found a ready response. One
Alliance woman, who hasn't forgotten
the war and the sacrifices made by
soldiers, has opened her home and her
heart, and the mother and babe will
have a place to live an eat and be
able to see the soldier in the hospital.
The young mother was willing to
make almost any sacrifice to be near
her husband. She tried desperately
hard to find work in Alliance, but was
unsuccessful. No one wanted to em
ploy for housework a woman who had
a young baby to care for, and the
mother had been trained in nothing
else. As a last resort, she offered to
leave her baby with relatives at Chad
ron. and work here simply for money
enough to pay for the care of the
child.
Herald readers will be pleased to
know that this soldier's wife wilt not
be required to make this sacrifice, and
that she has found a pleasant home
and sympathetic companionship, and
that she may keep her baby with her.
The women who made the offer is
the sort who will make the . young
mother's stay in Alliance as pleasant
as possible. Red Cross officials in

A large crowd attended the ball
games at Berea Tuesday, played in
connection with the Farmers Union
meeting. The first game was played
between the Ash Grove and Box Butte
Red Sox teams, the former getting
the long end of an 8 to 9 score. Fol
lowing this battle of bats, the Berea
team played the winners. The Ash
Grove boys knew how well the Berea
team can play, so they selected their
nine from the Box Butte Bed box, the
Hemingford team and their own, out
they didnt use quite enough care in
the selection. The game went in their
favor for a while, but the-tide turned
before long and the Berea team won
by the margin of 9 to 12 Every play'

RENT; SAVING
V
Will Pay for this House
You are paying for the house you live in, whoever
holds the title. If you are a renter, you are paying for N
the house for your landlord and when you get through,
he'll have the deed and the house, and you'll have a bunch
of worthless rent receipts. '
You and your family never will be satisfied until you
have a home of your own. A rented house cannot be
like a real home.
v Why not make that rent money pay for a home of
your own ; .
